Nice Karen!! Love the squirrel shot ![]() The buck is beautiful! It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give... |

He looks so beautiful out there in his natural setting among the grass and wildflowers. ![]() |

Oh Karen ![]() ![]() Oh Jae lol ! See how white that squirrel tummy is? And jmorth's is so golden...I thought mine where white, and started to wonder if I was nuts. Karen I remember you mentioning that before and being amazed that the critters braved your ' pet' critters. "If you bring joy and enthusiasm to everything you do, people will think you're crazy" W. One final look... before walking into the woods.![]() Instead of running after perfection, why not simply walk in faith? |

Handsome! We took Addy to her swimming hole Saturday morning. The river is wide shallow, sandy, and looks very clean since the big rains. Really pretty now. After twenty minutes of wading, and a number of stick fetches, Mark noticed something crossing the river about 200 feet up stream? ![]() We were surprised that a critter would be seen about at 11 am with a splashing big dog anywhere in sight. It crossed over and started working down the bank opposite, and closer to us. A raccoon. ![]() And it worked its way down the bank, all the way to the bridge abutment. Ady took one foray over there but came back. But t\when the thing got by the bridge, Addy loked again and started barking. She got so excited that she braved some deep water and went to the othr bank and started barking in its face. No calling would get her back. It was getting pretty hairy there, and besides we had some spectators on an overhead footbridge ![]() ![]() ![]() "If you bring joy and enthusiasm to everything you do, people will think you're crazy" W. Wow sally that could have been bad if the coon had rabies. Usually when you see them during the day bold like that it's the case. Glad you were able to get Addy before something happened ![]() It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. I agree... they can and will forage some in the day, but it should have run like a rabbit fromm the dog! I wouuld have thought rabies right off the bat! I hope your dog didn't get bit or scratched Sally! Instead of running after perfection, why not simply walk in faith? |

Addy just had her rabies shot update couple weeks ago. She should be protected right? "If you bring joy and enthusiasm to everything you do, people will think you're crazy" W. Haelfeli, New Yorker cartoon |

Scary! I'm so glad there was no physical encounter. Very pretty picture Karen! ![]() |

From what I've googled, she's fine as long as she's current on rabies. We do keep current on all shots. Some said there's speculation that rabies shots last much longer than 3 years. But at five dollars a shot at our animal control place, why skimp? "If you bring joy and enthusiasm to everything you do, people will think you're crazy" W. Haelfeli, New Yorker cartoon |

Well, I posted a reply to this last night... but it was removed... so I suppose this one will be removed too. I am not trying to scare anybody... I am only suggesting that every precaution for your pet be taken. I worked as a veterinary technician for over seven years before going into human medicine as a medic. When a pet was bitten by a suspicious animal, even if they had been vaccinated, sometimes they would re-vaccinate around the area of the scratch or bite. This is done to this day for people who are bitten or scratched and brought to the ER for rabies immunization. I audit up to 200 charts a day, and I have seen it many times. I am sorry this occured, and again, I am not trying to scare anyone... I was just trying to offer some well educated and researched advice. Have a good day! Instead of running after perfection, why not simply walk in faith? |

Thanks Karen. Maybe I'll call the vet tomorrow at least, run it by them. "If you bring joy and enthusiasm to everything you do, people will think you're crazy" W. Haelfeli, New Yorker cartoon |

This isn't too earth-shattering, but still interesting... we're up at the mountain place this weekend, changing the decor for the holidays. We spent Thanksgiving here too, and while FIL and son & family were here, we did not see a single deer, which was unusual. But since hunting season had just begun, we figured they were keeping a low profile during the day. Well, not so much this weekend! Here's what we saw just today in our front area: ![]() The first twins showed up in the early afternoon. They grazed for while, then wandered back into the woods. ![]() I noticed this trio (or vice versa!) as I was working near the front door, which has a lot of glass. All females, not sure if this is a Mom and 2 kids, or an older sis and younger sibs, but we saw them regularly this year. ![]() Actually, it turned out to be four, another older female was coming out of the woods a little behind the trio. So we're not sure how this group is related, but they have tended to show up together this year. ![]() ![]() We have never seen any deer "bed down" since we've owned this place, and then two did today. They stayed this way for quite a while, then got back up and grazed some more, then they all wandered off. They were in the front area for at least an hour, if not longer. I also have to say that their winter coats are really excellent camouflage! Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |

Such wonderful photos Barb...wish I was there. We have quite a few around here and in the woods out back but since I got Inky they tend to avoid my lot directly. They eat a lot of my neighbor's plants though and we do see them from afar. One morning we were walking up in the woods behind and, as Inky innocently meandered close, suddenly one burst straight up from the spot where she had been sleeping and nearly flew some feet away. Then she turned and stared at Inky and I braced myself for what might come. The three of us stared motionless and in silence until she threw her nose in the air, did a perfect pivot and trotted off. I guess we know who the boss is here! ![]() Woman on the eastbound train ...........................................Je Suis Désolé. (also a mule lovin', Charley huggin' girl) |

I suspect the Inkster Patrol definitely keeps the deer away! ![]() I surely don't like watching deer in Northern VA - they are eating everything in sight, but here in the woods, they stick mostly to the grass in the lawn, and of course, I don't have any major gardens to be decimated at the mountain place anyway. The larger one of the 3 in that photo seemed to be the "guard" deer - she stood literally motionless, nothing moving but her ears and head, just a little, in the front yard, while I was near the windows. We couldn't believe it - for nearly 20 minutes, she never moved! Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |
