Please join in and keep us posted on the latest happenings in the bug department in your area, whether it be a beautiful flutterby or a scary wasp, we love to see them! Cool j- do you know what those sticklike bugs are? maybe some small thing from the stick bug group...? "mark s very pretty. I don't seem them here much but saw one in TN in the SMokies. I have some tiny white and tiny black butterflies lately. ![]() Lacewing "If you bring joy and enthusiasm to everything you do, people will think you're crazy" W. Haelfeli, New Yorker cartoon |

Sally - the wings are incredible on that one. I haven't seen any ?marks here but there are plenty of skippers. The stick bugs are cute. They look like they need some booties - the kind that go on their feet that is. ![]() ![]() |

Nice ladies! I forgot I had these from the OBX Funky grasshopper ![]() I've found out since this in an Orb spider, there was a sign there that was calling it a writing spider ![]() It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. I've never seen that writing on a web. I've never gotten a grasshopper to stand still enough for a photo. |

Loretta, I think they are more common farther south. In twenty some years at this place I have had about eight- that includes one outburst of three at a time, maybe the kids of the previous year's. They hang out during the day and seem to like their web parallel to a wall, not across a path like those creepy night time orb guys you get on August. Do you know what the "writing" means??? It means that she has already been mated with and eaten the male! Gives all new meaning to "the writing's on the wall"! ![]() Instead of running after perfection, why not simply walk in faith? |

Really! That's dark. Speaking of walking into spiders, we found this guy one year when we opened the front door. ![]() |

EEK!! Those brown ones usually set up a couple webs here in late summer- Bear in mind when playing hide and seek at night in my yard. The writing - Wow, Karen, I've never known that. This last one must have really liked it...with the romance novel she wrote ![]() "If you bring joy and enthusiasm to everything you do, people will think you're crazy" W. I actually love Orb Weaver Spiders! I don't want to touch them or walk into them, but they make such beautiful webs! Instead of running after perfection, why not simply walk in faith? |

I agree Karen- to be admired , from a distance. I hope they eat stinkbugs. "If you bring joy and enthusiasm to everything you do, people will think you're crazy" W. Haelfeli, New Yorker cartoon |

Something must eat stinkbugs. This guy was pretty interesting - we got a good look at him weaving his web. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

There've been several ID threads on DG for these- one said they might be called Jewel or Catfaced spiders. "If you bring joy and enthusiasm to everything you do, people will think you're crazy" W. Haelfeli, New Yorker cartoon |
