Looks like Irene may have some impact on our travels to OBX Saturday. This may make it easier, as owners, they used to tell us to come and bring candles and drinks. The renters are told to leave. During Dennis we drove straight in, everyone was going the other way. We made landfall in Kitty Hawk the same time he landed in Oak Island, 60-75 miles away. But we are not residents. so last year during mandatory evacuation we were told to leave. I still think if we'd have just hunkered down and waited no one would have bothered us. I think if they let us in on Saturday, we'll be there. Ric

I was thinking about you two when I heard about Irene and wondering when you were leaving for the beach! If you get "stuck" between here and there, the guest room is always available. I can't guarantee that it's clean though. Let me rephrase that...I'll guarantee it's NOT clean!
Great it will feel just like home.
Just said to Ric the other day "Man I have got to start working on the house" All summer long I just throw things in the empty bedrooms and close the door. It's getting so that you can hardly get into those rooms anymore.
You can wade through it though. We need that guy from Oprah to come and teach us to declutter. We are both pack rats and after 30+ years, we have a lot of pack. It's terrible, as soon as I get rid of something in the barn, I wish I had it for a project. Ric

Well Ric & Holly, I hope that you are leaving today and will still enjoy a nice trip. Hopefully there will be no serious damage at your destination and you will have a great time.
Don't think we will be leaving for the beach today. The Town of Duck is closed to visitors till tomorrow. Residents, owners and those assisting them can come in today. We are technically owners as we own our timeshare but I don't think that is quite the same as owning a beach house. We will be calling down to our place a bit later and seeing if we can get in today.
They closed the resort for the week, this is actually a good thing as we get credited for a week that way. It just is unfortunate since most of the family planned to be there this week into Monday or so. Ric

That Island is really long. I was coming back up from Savannah one time and wanted to go over there to spend a few days and had planned to take the ferry. Well, I got there too late and had to drive all the way up to New Bern and come back down. it was quite a long detour.
So is the Chesapeake. We got lost going to Asitique and lost a dog (long story). So I told Holly to just drive east, wrong move , we had to use the tunnel/bridge to come back .Ric Oh BTY it's 77 miles from Currituk light to Ocacroke. sp?

Ocracoke? These Indian names are charming but sure hard to spell. Oh, I know, you can get really messed up trying to navigate around the Chesapeake. When we are sailing, some of the bridges are only raised on the hour and if you are just 2 minutes late, you have to sit in the channel and wait another hour for the next raising. If a big storm squall blows through, you can get washed aground. I've had it happen, no fun. I took the ferry once as a kid. I wonder if they still run it.
Josh, Jen, Lily, Lucas,Jr, and Cortney (Josh's SF), Jen and the grandchildren left this AM, leaving the4 of us in a 3 bedroom quiet beach side condo. Ric
