Dippity Doo most likely, or beer even. You look so cute in those glasses Sally. They are very similar to the ones I wore back then too. Most of the time the photographers made us take off our glasses for pictures. I don't think that I had mine on in any of my school shots. Do you wear glasses today?

Yup- after a 20 some year hiatus with contacts. When they quit making the good old cheap bausch and lomb ones i started with, I had toruble finding comfortable ones that I can read with- or my aging eyes at the sametime. Just got a new pair of Liz Claiborne frames. My sister and I seem to run into 'her' designs often and like them.

Those are really cute photos sally. I put Rick Rack on the first dress that I ever made in the eighth grade and had my class photo taken in it too. My hair was in a pixie cut and my cousin's GF had just put a blond streak in it much to my mother's chagrin. Blinking She was going to beauty school and I often got free doos from my cousin's two friends. This was just before the long straight hair craze came in, still back in the Twiggy era.

This house has been expanded and improved over the years, but the house is not the significance in this photo. This corner was my bus stop in the 4th through 6th grades.

It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...

Yes Sally, it's about a mile down the road from here. My other house is only about a mile further. It's funny, I never expected to live here again.

I find myself wondering where I'll be in 10, 20, 30 years...

My MIL grew up near here, moved to Baltimore and lived on the other side of town until her late 80s, then moved back 'here' to a senior only apt building. Not because she knew anybody, except us, but probably something nice about knowing she's home.

Yes, but it was easy. Smiling I don't really consider this place home. We only lived here for 3 years as my parents separated, although my dad lived here for a few more years. I lived a lot of places after that, a few also near here, a few in the city and other suburbs and once even in Fla and then a very extended stay in St. Croix.

I did spend 25 years across the river about 2 and a half miles away from here in King of Prussia. For years I thought of that as home, but that feeling changed soon after I left. I think it was the freedom from the years of fighting the traffic over there that made it so easy to let go. When the trees are bare I can see across the river to my K of P home from the back deck of my regular home. That home is only a half mile outside of K of P. There was an entrance to Valley Forge National park about an eighth of a mile from my K of P home and there is also one of the same distance from my regular home, so I guess the Park grounds me.

I was starting to consider my other neighborhood home after 5 years. I often think of the neighborhood that I spent some of my teens years in the city as the one most greatly influencing my life.
It has a special lure for me, but the neighborhood has deteriorated in the last 20 years or so and has little of it's former characteristics.

There is also another neighborhood, one that my grandparents lived in for 45 years in a more densely populated southern suburb that I lived in for a couple of years. I have wonderful memories of there too, but it is entirely too crowded an area to live in. It's funny, I don't mind crowds at all in the city, but I absolutely hate them out in the suburbs. This area that I live in now was completely rural when I was a kid.

I have no idea where I will be in 10 years either. Life has a funny way of changing your plans. Smiling

OK, here is something that has always fascinated me about one of the local schools. This Sycamore that sits on the corner of the local public elementary school property is over 250 years old. When the school built the fence to enclose the school yard, they specifically designed the fence to avoid the tree. The trunk divides into two main trunks, one of which is hollow. When I was a kid, I used to imagine a little Indian Princess hiding in the hollow trunk. Smiling

That's a cool tree... I love old and big trees! Virginia did a survey a few years back, and went around the state looking for the oldest, biggest. and most remarkable trees. People from aall over could write in and "nominate" trees to be considered. Then they wrote and compiled a book called Remarkable Trees of Virginia. Two of my nominations made the book! Anyone who nominated a tree was listed in the book! Beautiful photos too! I would have loved one of my own photos to have been used... but that didn't happen.
