Looks like a nice day ahead, hopefully the skeeters won't be too bad and I can get some more yard work done ![]() It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. I'm amazed how lush everything looks. There is almost no damage here. ![]() The garden needs weeded and harvested, and the lawns are a little too lush. ![]() ![]() ![]() It was nice stopping at Jill's and seeing everyone. Everyone looked as though they were well, although I didn't get to visit with everyone. Jill seems to have found a new energy, ![]() ![]() The Amen of nature is always a flower. So happy that Sophie is feeling better, Ronnie!! I had a real senior moment (day) yesterday. I got up real early and really paid attention to my appearance, set up the table in the garden room after I cleaned it all up AGAIN, and then proceeded to cook up a storm. At 1 o'clock when the guests weren't arriving, I looked at the calender and saw that it was the 10th, not the 11th!!. Put everything in the frig and went to Belvidere's VICTORINA DAYS CELEBRATION instead. Instead of feeling really good about waking up with everything done, I feel as though I should be doing something every moment and there's not much to do. Kind of takes the excitement out of the day. Can't win when you're too picky. |

I'm hoping the 'skeeters stay down too. ![]() Oh no Ric, you've got that sludge too! Try to take a photo before you kill it and put it in our Fungi Thread. http://cubits.org/MidAtlanticMusings/thread/view/57603/ I haven't heard Deb talk about hers in a while and don't know whether or not it ever died. Teri, I don't know whether or not it's age that causes moments like that. Last month I showed up for my hairdressing appointment a day early, not quite as significant a time warp as yours, amusing at best. I think maybe it's a sign of an entirely too busy brain. I'm glad that you had a nice day anyway and maybe you can relax and enjoy today now. ![]() |

Hi Roses, Hope you have a nice day, I can just see you sitting there waiting for everyone to come. You are such a doer that I know that once all the guests will arrive you will be busy, busy, busy. The Smithsonian has been running a display this month of items relative to the terrorist attacks on 9/11. The display ends today but people can view the entire collection online. http://americanhistory.si.edu/september11/ |

Bobby DeNiro is on a special tonight ![]() ![]() Terri, I'm sure your guests will have a wonderful; time today. Hm, does going a day early have the same weight as forgetting to go? Sally, you must have remembered before you came to the swap, I thought you looked very nice. ![]() It showered last night and finally dried out enough to mow after dinner. I got most of it done, but guess what? It's raining again! ![]() I'm thinking about rice culture again. ![]() Stormy, I will get a pic before I clean up. Ric The Amen of nature is always a flower. We haven't had any rain for the past two days, Ric, but we can't mow part of our lawn because there's a strange bubbling up of water that continues to flow in that area. It kind of looks like a spring, but I don't really know what's causing it. Good place for rice field, also?? |
Sounds like groundwater. The water table is no doubt really high after all the flooding. We get a groundwater "spring" in our yard when there's been a lot of rain, but it comes out right at the water meter - first time I saw it, I thought we'd sprung a leak! |
That's kinda funny Teri, good thing you had something else to do. Wow never seen groundwater spring before, that would have had me worried Went to a memorial and dedication of a new 9/11 monument today, hubby was a fireman during the time and went into Staten Island to cover their stations while they were in city. Stood up at Bronx firefighters' funeral, we know lots of guys that went up there to do clean up, my hometown is only a bridge away from NY and we could see the smoke from it from our house....watching all the videos brings back all the same emotions of the day it happened, mostly disbelief. |

Jen, give that guy an extra hug for us on behalf of firefighters whether, w are feeling humble are just watching some more 9 11 shows Ric, you're a sweetheart, I made sure I colored my hair before the swap, but I skipped the silk and pearls since bec and chantel couldn't make it . King of Prussia unveiled a monument yesterday with two big pieces of the steel from the World Trade Center. I am wondering where they moved that magnificent sculpture of a crawling firefighter that was in the middle of Times Square. I didn't see it the last time that I was there. There was a memorial here over the weekend and they had a special fireworks display which I didn't go to, only heard. Fireworks seemed like an odd thing, but maybe they fit well into the ceremony. I saw Robert De Niro yesterday give the invocation for the ceremony at the NFL. That was a nice ceremony. It poured here last night with lots of thunder and lightning, some of which sounded like it landed very close by. ![]() Sal, I have forgotten my hairdressing appointment too, which is why I was so anxious to get there. ![]() ![]() Spent some time yesterday reading updated entries in the memorial journals of some of the folks that I knew who died in the WTC and some of what other places were doing to remember or honor them and what their families have been up to since then. It was a very emotional day. ![]() The next morning I watched it all fall and right after the Market technology shut down spent a frantic day trying to get news on different folks. Never got through to anyone until 1 AM. They worked in One Liberty Place and had seen it all right across the street from their windows and had to evacuate and run from their buildings as burning debris fell on their building even before the collapse. None of my friends who worked in the WTC made it out. They all worked above the 85th floor. It was almost two years before we had any word of some of their whereabouts during the inferno. I was also frantic to reach my niece as she was in a high rise dorm up there and wanted to be sure she stayed out of the tunnels and off the bridges and away from any iconic spots. It truly was a day that changed our perspective. ![]() Teri, it seems so strange that you would have that water with as high up as you are, but I guess stranger things have been known to happen. Hopefully it will stop soon. |
So sorry to hear NONE of your friends made it out ![]() |
Well Jen, there were thousands of people who worked in the top 20 floors. Most of the ones who survived were downstairs waiting for the elevators or visiting firms or departments on other floors or still in the parking garage or just late to work or picking up a cup of coffee or off premises at errands or meetings. One of my friends was supposed to speak at a meeting uptown at 8:30, but got a call at 7:45 asking could he push his speech time back to 9:45. He went to his office at the WTC to kill the time having already had breakfast at home, something he never did. He and everyone who worked for his firm except one who was late taking his daughter to school perished. |

Stormy so very sorry for your loss ![]() ![]() I literally have hundreds of mosquito bites on me. Not a spot that doesn't have welts. I actually look like I have a disease ![]() I did a lot of clean up Yesterday and Saturday. I must have come across a nest and didn't realize it. I felt my ankles getting bit once in a while but nothing on my upper body ![]() It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. The mosquitoes are just terrible here too Ronnie. I am trying to keep the grass cut shorter hoping that will help. About 40 minutes outside is about all I can take right now and come in just covered in bites and need to take a shower to get rid of that buggy feeling. ![]() I was unable to get back into Cubits for the last 45 minutes or so. This happened a number of times yesterday and Saturday too. |

Stormy, it's been slow for me today, and I don't usually have problems here. Must still be working on it. Ronnie, are you sure the bites are mosquito? When I think of that many bites in areas covered by clothing, I think chiggers. Evil, nasty little bugs! |
