Caribbean - aka Netherland Antilles, although I don't really understand the distinction. In the end, only kindness matters. Art and Artists & The Reading Room http://cubits.org/thereadingroom/ |

It's a Dutch island, hence the "Netherlands" appelation. It's part of 3 islands at the far end of the Antilles chain: Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao, sometimes called the ABCs. Just off the coast of Venezuela. It is renowned for diving spots, and crystal clear water. Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |

One is a sea the other is a set of Islands within that sea as distinguished from the USVI or the BVI or the Caymans or the Grenadines. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_islands_in_the_Caribbea... |

Are any of them still under the European country's rule or are they pretty much independent now? In the end, only kindness matters. Art and Artists & The Reading Room http://cubits.org/thereadingroom/ |

I think only a few are independent, but most of them are still considered part of the country under whose flag they live, and they follow French law, Dutch law, British law, etc. Hence the "French West Indies", "Netherlands Antilles" and "British Virgin Islands" nomenclature. And to stay on topic here, they all have beautiful tropical birds to see! ![]() Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |

![]() ![]() ![]() So here are a few "NOT" Mid-Atlantic Birds. ![]() First Flamingo siting was so exciting. I was gearing up for a dive when my dive partner said what is that bird and pointed. I yelled it's a Flamingo. Yep it was flying just a hundred yards away what a great sight. Most of the ones I saw the next day at the Salt Flats were farther away and didn't get very good pictures of them but I did have my binoculars so a got a really good look at them. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Life is Great! Yes I am home, rolled in around 3:30 this morning just starting to catch up. So they had these really nice parrots all around our resort. You could hear them up in the trees but I couldn't get any pictures of them, couldn't even see them as they were up in the high branches. I walked down the road a bit and on the way back two of them flew across the road and into some lower brush right where I could get a good look at them. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Life is Great! Last of the Bird pictures. I think these might be some kind of Plover but I really don't know. They were all over the dining area patio. Just like the Pigeons in Phila. ![]() ![]() ![]() Life is Great! Holly, how cool to see those birds in their native habitat. It looks so funny to see real live pink birds among the trees. The parrots look surreal sitting there too. ![]() ![]() |

They are more interesting looking than pigeons, I think. |
