I keep my birdfeed in a large plastic trash can with lid. The squirrels have chewed on the lid but they haven't got in ......yet. |
|

I used to keep a large bag of seed in a galvanized can with lid and brick on top. They eventually figured out what was in there. I don't think they got the btrick off but if I left it off I think they lifted the lid and got in. All the usual suspects in birds today- wren, chickadee, cardinal, titmouse, robin (not in the seed but in the tree) and goldfinch. I keep my seed in a metal can that has a locking sort of lid, So far so good an them not getting to that. I just cant keep the #$%&!! off the feeder ![]() I haven't seen any titmice yet and very few goldfinch ![]() ![]() It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give... |

I am sorry I have been MIA from this thread for so long... But Spring is almost here, and I am ready! I do have a few to share, taken from my balcony throughout the winter. I didn't really get out much. This is a Ruby-crowned Kinglet... This one lone little guy hung around nearly all winter. So tiny and cute! ![]() Instead of running after perfection, why not simply walk in faith? |

Welcome back (home!) Karen! Love all the pictures. Was that Cardinal in the snow the one on March 5? So jealous - we got not a flake up in the DC Metro area. Well... we did have some flakes, but as our Capital Weather Gang says, they were merely "conversational" snow. ![]() Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |

Yes Barb, it was the one from March 5th... And that was our "big" snowfall for the winter! We got about an inch and a half, And it all melted about an hour after it stopped. That was fine with me! Instead of running after perfection, why not simply walk in faith? |

Oh so nice! My birds have started eating more from the feeder this month than at all earlier this winter. Kinda glad to save a few $$, not having to refill before now. "If you bring joy and enthusiasm to everything you do, people will think you're crazy" W. Haelfeli, New Yorker cartoon |

At first glance I thought loon, hmmm bill's wrong. Blackheaded duck, hmmmm, plumage isn't right. Got home and looked till I found this: Common Merganser ![]() This is the best I could do, The light was going fast, and handheld. I don't recall ever seeing these, but apparently they are common??
