I KNEW when I saw this   thread pop up, it would be more awesome birds from Karen.Thanks for sharing. I've rarely seen GBH in life. I saw footprints in the mud at a pond though- huge!. | Time to share some more bird pics! The river has been busy, busy, busy with the shad running strong right now. Lots of activity! Start with the first catch of the season...  Instead of running after perfection, why not simply walk in faith? |

| This eagle was being quite the bully and opportunist! He would sit in the trees until an Osprey caught a fish, then he would ambush them and try to chase them down for the fish. This one kept his fish and got away! Osprey 1 - Eagle 0!    Instead of running after perfection, why not simply walk in faith? |

| Took me two years to get a shot of an Osprey right before it hits the water... And on this particular day, I caught it twice! Their positioning as they strike is so cool to me! Fish have no chance! (Though there are often misses.)   Instead of running after perfection, why not simply walk in faith? |

| There is a back-story to these shots... As I was walking down to my usual spot by the river one evening, I spotted an Osprey down in the water (see the first of the three photos below). It was literally just floating down the river with it's wings out, as you see in the photo. I thought to myself, "Oh, he's been hurt diving after a fish!" I am watching it through the camera, and it's going through my mind that this Osprey is going to drown right in front of me.  All of a sudden, it started flapping and pulled itself out of the water, still holding on to this enormous fish! (see second photo below) The fish was nearly as big as the body of the Osprey. If you look closely at the second photo, you can see the tail of the fish in the tail feathers of the bird! He managed to take off, but dropped it very quickly, and then flew to this tree, where they usually sit and eat (third photo). It appeared he damaged some feathers in the struggle (also visible in the second photo). I saw him fly by twice more before I left, but he didn't try to catch another fish. Poor baby!  One tired bird...  Instead of running after perfection, why not simply walk in faith? |

| Karen, those are absolutely spectacular photos! I love that you were able to catch the osprey as it hit the water TWICE! What a wonderful place you have there for photography and just enjoying watching these beautiful birds. Re: the bald eagles - I've heard from other birdwatchers that they can be quite opportunistic and will steal other birds' catches instead of getting their own. | OOh I knew it would be very good when I saw this thread pop up. I didn't know it would be incredible, but it is. Karen, between great skill and great patience you capture such amazing scenes. Incredible shotS of the strike! Can you even imagine spearing a fish once, much less doing it regularly enough to survive? What a struggle for the osprey! Thank you for sharing!
