I got a cookbook by Jane Brody, off one of those discount tables in a book store decades ago, which is full of fairly easy, different, healthy meal plans. Its the source of my favorite Huevos rancheros recipe (OK only...)
Nothing's brewing here... I've been outside all afternoon. Hiking/ playing in the woods for two hours, stopped for burgers, then got home and right to work in the yard...

I had two or three of her cookbooks. She had a great recipe for a curried peanut dip and another one for a mushroom pate.
I also made my veal picante ala Brody with considerably less fat. I actually made quite a few recipes from her books over the years. Wasn't the first one called Great Good Food?

Hi - new to this thread, but it sounds like you could answer a question for me - what is this? It's as tall as my teapot, but the large lid and the paintings of veggies on the outside makes me think it's a veggie stock maker......... pour the stock into something else, using the spout? It's meant for stovetop use...

Well, I imagine that it would be great for steeping herbs or for making vegetable broth from all of your veggie trimmings. You could make seafood broth from shrimp and clam shells in it too.

Hi Suan--My first thought too was teapot, but that is a very large lid. I can see why you had second thoughts!
We just poked in the freezer and found frozen stuff for the kids and finished up some soup.
Tomorrow is CHicken Cacciatore! I got a big pack of chicken thighs last week, I like to include some dark meat for flavor and because i like it, and I brown the thighs with skin on for some good flavor. I'll get chicken breast tomorrow, and make a big batch. Italian bread from the store, zucchini maybe the veg.
Does anyone keep a freezer inventory or have some ultra organized way to not lose thngs? Or just periodically poke through it like I do? My pantry area is also challenged.

Susan, So far we haven't had frost yet, but the nights are definitely chilly. We've also had a lot of chilly wet days, good soup weather.
Sally, This freezer in this house is the freezer from Hades. I was very organized in my one at home. I dated everything and stacked it in date order and kept everything in sections by food type.
These cabinets in this house are all fairly shallow so they are easier to keep on top of. It seems like I am rummaging through them weekly trying to see what might be lurking in the back. I guess that I try to consciously do that with one or two shelves a week.

I just pulled out my Great Big Book Of Soups...... looking forward to making some! I picked all the rest of the green & red onions (red just like green - lots of stalk, and little bulb....).
I made some turkey soup tonight - put red sauce, salt/pepper and red onions....... a little tarragon, and yummmmmmy!

That sounds Yummie Susan! I love Tarragon, but don't often put it in my soups. I will try making a small pot of soup with it because I'm not sure my DSO would like it. I think that I might open a Just Soup thread here because it's such a popular topic.
I have some red & green onions out in the garden but think they still need to grow a bit. My leeks are getting thicker every week.

Stormy - so glad to hear others like fried tomatoes! I've chatted with a few online that have never heard of them done that way. Growing up it was a staple in September/October

I always like to fry them for breakfast with eggs. I also fry onion slices to go with them too. It makes a great breakfast. Gosh, Susan, I didn't even realize that you are up in Calgary.
