ah well, I likely won't get to go anywhere anytime soon either - just started a new job a week ago, so I'm watching my $$.
Did buy a "new to us" set of washer/dryer today though. Our old set was Really old. Last night the motor blew on the washer (burnt more like - what a Smell!! ). Bob & I (he did really......) just moved them onto the deck with our neighbour's dolly. Tomorrow he and a friend will take them away and bring the "new" ones here.

I wish you luck with them Susan. Shopping for those types of things is real pain.
Well, I'm going to make some banana bread in a bit. Last week when I made some, I was rummaging through the cupboard taking stock of my nut supply. I came cross an open bag of salted & roasted fancy mixed nuts. They were getting old, so I crushed and put a bunch of them in the Banana bread. If that was not an interesting addition to the bread! I plan to use the rest of the bag today. After this week, I'll be making pumpkin cranberry bread for a while. I also bought some golden raisins so I could make Chris's Irish Soda bread.

Sure, Why not? Susan, do you have a good recipe for Oat Cakes? I would love to have one. Chris's Soda Bread recipe is posted in our recipe box thread here in this forum. What type of cubit is yours?

Oat cakes - Sure! I make 'em every year for our Robbie Burns dinner at the church
Oat Cakes
Ingredients:
Teacup of medium oatmeal
Teacup of plain flour
Half teacup of milk
Tablespoon of soft brown sugar
3 oz butter or margarine
Level teaspoon salt
Level teaspoon bicarbonate of soda (baking soda)
Method:
Sieve the flour, salt and bicarbonate of soda into a bowl, add the oatmeal and mix. Cut the butter or margarine into small portions and rub into the mixture with your fingers. Add the sugar and mix well. Pour in the milk and mix until you have stiff but workable dough.
Shake some flour on a worktop, turn the dough onto it and shake a little flour on the top. Roll out thinly (about half an inch thick) and prick over with a fork. Cut into rounds with a scone cutter and place on an oiled baking tray. Bake in a pre-heated oven for 15/20 minutes at 350F/180C/Gas Mark 4. Use a palette knife to lift the biscuits onto a wire coming rack. Store in an airtight tin.

Wow, thank you Susan! I have never seen a biscuit/cookie recipe that doesn't start out with cream the butter and sugar together. Maybe that is why Oat Cakes have an interesting texture. Do people ever put nuts in them?

I suppose you could...... why not? But then it wouldn't be a traditional Oat Cake recipe.
However, ya never know how people "adjusted" the family recipe to suit what they had on hand, eh?

Scottish one, and I need to make an article to go in it, and I have a lot of recipes in it
I'll post the link tonight - right now I'm at work, and should get back to what they're paying me for
