Yes I agree Mops is one good looking dog!

Have to take Harper to the vet today, she is having trouble breathing and is coughing up a lot of mucous. She was coughing a little yesterday but it just seemed like she had something stuck, figured she ate a bit of dirt or grass from the yard.
She had me up most of the night coughing and when I came down this morning there were small spots of mucous all over. It seems to be getting worse as the day goes on and she was having trouble catching her breath. I can't even begin to think of what it could be Confused
It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...

Thanks guys!

Harper is home and Jae that's what the vet is thinking, she ate something that scratched her esophagus. She did have a slight temp though so he sent me home with some antibiotics and cough pills, also gave her two shots while we were there. She does have quite a bit of mucus but he said that will actually work as a benefit for her, help with any bacteria that may want to enter. Just have to watch and make sure nothing goes to the lungs. He said they sounded clear.

No hard food for a couple of days and no milk bones. I'll soak her food for a while before she eats. He said to try and get her to eat some vaseline to coat the throat, don't think she will lick it but may try and add some butter to it.

I am relived, was starting to think congestive heart failure or pneumonia Blinking

Hi Mops! Lovey dubby

I heard some interesting things about WW I dogs today, from an author who wrote a book about RinTin Tin. How dogs were used in war, more by other countries than US at that time at least. The most touching was- some were fitted with aid packs and sent into the field to find living soldiers among the dead. The living might be able to help themselves. The dog could bark to bring the medics. And if all else failed, the dog was there for comfort of the dying soldier Crying Crying

They had cigarettte dogs- mostly small ones, (Alfie) with packs of cigs roaming around.

RinTinTin was found by a dog loving American who was on recon and found a bombeed kennel, with a just whelped mother and five pups. Lovey dubby he saved them.

I could use a cig dawg right now.

Ronnie, did the vet x-ray in case whatever it was went down? What did vet think about potential for clogged lower unit? Inky actually likes a little vicks if he is stuffy. I put it on his nose and he licks it down. Same thing only camphor & menthol, & eucalyptus.

I was sadly thinking maybe the same thing. So glad the lungs sound good.

The vet doesn't seem to think there will be a problem on the other end and I saw she was going OK this afternoon. We talked about x rays and are going to wait and see, if in a couple of days she doesn't get better we I will look into it. She is exhausted now and sleeping, didn't want dinner but will try again a little later. I saved her some chicken from dinner that she can have tif she doesn't want her food, we have some leftover spaghetti and clams too.

I'll get some vix from my DIL tonight and see if she likes that. Abby would eat it up Hilarious!

I tried to make up a list of what I know are bad for dogs.
Sweetener Xylitol found in candy and gum = can cause liver damage & failure.
Grapes & Raisins = Reason unknown but causes kidney damage & failure.
Avocado = Contains Persin toxic in large quantities.
Chocolate = Contains Theobrmine which can cause Epileptic Seizure , abnormal heart rhythm and internal bleeding. Also has caffeine.
Caffeine from Tea Coffee and Energy drinks and other sources = There is no antidote for caffeine and dogs bodies can not handle it . It can cause internal bleeding abnormal heart rhythm and death.
Walnuts and Macadamia are poisonous to dogs as few as 5 or 6 Macadamia can kill a dog.
Most nuts not good for them , they can cause bladder stones.
Onions and Garlic = Kill red blood cells causes Anemia
Turkey Skin and Fat from meat can cause Pancreatitis.
Potatoes Raw = Green potatoes contain Solanium Alkaloids which is bad for dogs and humans . Cooked potatoes are fine.
Bones from pork, chicken, turkey and unless you know the right ones from beef can splinter cause internal bleeding and kill. I have known a couple of people over the years that have lost their pet to this or ended up spending thousands of dollars.

I made this list for someone on ATP but thought others might find it helpful.

That's more informative than the simple' don't give this' that I have read before- thx . I did not know about turkey.

NB- Addy, without our approval, helped herself to a 12 oz bag of choc chips over the holiday. So 12 oz per 76 lb dog, at least we can say, may not be an emerggency. She showed no effects, but we found the empty bag.

Good list Bob. Added notes: it is not ripe avocado fruit that is a problem, it is unripe fruit, the pit and skin. Not only grapes and raisins...all grape products (and grape juice and seed are hidden in many things). Watch hidden ingredients. This is more true of onion in the form of seasoning and flavorings. For example, be careful with things like catsup and worchestershire, even some mustards, pizza sauce, any typed of sausage or processed meat, and salsa, etc.

No problem Bob, most people tend to think all large dogs are males. Abby our Bulldog is always mistaken for a "boy" Blinking
I guess because most people don't think of her as "pretty" Whistling

Harper is doing a bit better today, not coughing as much although she is taking cough pills. She has a touch of laryngitis and it did look rather comical when she was barking and nothing was coming out Big Grin
