I can almost always be tempted by Bill's bulbs... LMK which ones you're looking at... I've got mostly sun, but I can still be tempted by some part-shade ones like gypsy rose or rosebud. Carolyn Wharton & Gingerland are ones I've grown before and particularly like. Look at his collections, too... Also, I'm tempted by his Colossal bulbs, but not 10 of a variety. I'll have to look to see if he's offering a "collection" with those huge bulbs.

I'm thinking of ordering:

RD-1.10 Red Caladium Collection

and then ordering 10 of some sort of white ones.

I don't really need 10 white ones and would split these if necessary.

How many Grade 1 size bulbs would you put in , say, an eight inch or ten inch pot?

I ordered 2 of the collections.

Sally, I think that 3 bulbs would be more than enough in a ten inch pot. Even 2 might do it. The leaves look better when they have room, and they are quite large. I have a 16 inch pot that I plant one lily bulb in the center and 4 caladium bulbs around it. Nothing was full grown yet in this picture.Thumb of 2012-12-10/Roses_R_Red/ab85be

HI all! Good to see that I'm not the only crazy here. I just got done digging in an axillary order of bulbs last week and now the yard is buried in snow.

I ordered that group so late because I get good bulbs from Holland bulb farms and they are SOOOO cheap right now. If you have weather were you can still dig some in, go to

http://www.hollandbulbfarms.com/search.asp?page=1&keywords=C...

They ship fall bulbs until the end of the month...THEN..... to make matters better I have a coupon code for free shipping on orders of $25 or more. The code is MryXmas but expires tomorrow.

If you miss that, there is another Free Shipping code that is good thru 12/31, but you have to spend$35. That code is HBFthxU.

Happy holidays to all!

...er...that link doesn't show all the good deals. If you go to the specific type, there are many more good deals. For instance, look at "all tulips"...have fun!

Lee Valley is doing a free shipping deal on orders over $40 until 1/7. I love their garden stuff, especially my stainless steel shovel, pruners, and pruning saw... what a boon for numnuts like me who leave their tools around.

If you need suggestions for reaching that free shipping total... check out "water warblers." They come 3 to a pack, but just 1 makes a lovely little gift, very attractive, and you won't believe how good they sound. My backyard birds will actually answer me back when I use one. They also have those handy "surgical" brushes for hand scrubbing and a host of other goodies!

Santa Rosa has extended their 35% off pre-season sale offer through Jan 20! This is dangerous... I have twice as many plants on my "wish list" there as I ordered on New Year's Eve, and I know Jude will let me keep adding to my order until the spring shipping date (for one flat rate S/H charge).

When I go to their website, the sale info is gone. I did get an order in earlier. Just ordered Chocolate Mimosa and a Wisteria from Mamajack. Couldn't resist.

The extended sale offer was in my Jan 10 "garden chores" email from them. The code is (still) ebird2013

That Chocolate Mimosa does look really yummy!!

Bob, I resisted the Echies (but thanks!), but I'm really glad I visited their site because I "cleaned them out" of metal garden mice!

I ordered 1 set before Christmas to ship up to Boston to my BIL & SIL... they were way cuter than the catalog photo, and I knew they'd love 'em. But I got "cute" with the labels when I wrapped them (separately), and my DMIL thought one was for her. Oops. *Blush* She was so crestfallen to find out she's been wrong that my sweet SIL promptly gave hers up, and it was shipped back to Winston-Salem (despite my assurances that I would find a pair for mom asap!).

I'd been thinking that the next time they went on a really good sale, I'd get another set to have a pair in both W-S and Boston, plus a couple more sets to give to friends next Christmas. Half-jokingly, I asked Jude to offer me a deal on the remaining mice -- and she did! Smiling No problem finding homes for them, as they have a certain style that's just right for some people (I think a lot of our friends are kinda geeky like us).

So there were no plants in the 3 big boxes that arrived Friday -- but there were a whole bunch of mice! Delivery man was coming up the walk & I said "Oh, good, my mice have arrived!" He nearly dropped the box. Rolling on the floor laughing

PalmFlex has FREE SHIPPING on Atlas Garden Gloves, a dozen in one size, either your favorite color or mixed colors for $43. That works out to about half of what they sell for around here, so it's a great deal. Either split an order with a friend or figure you'll use them eventually. It's the only glove I've really ever been able to stand, and I stash a pair in various places so they'll be handy.
