I've been confused about whats going on here. I started hearing that Fosamax is not all that great. I had a dexa scan last year and I was in the osteoporosis zone (WHA!!??) no thats wasn't such a huge surprise , I had been on Fosamax for a couple years, although I missed my dose a lot. And I take the calcium plus D's, but not religously three a day. ( I'm a mess right?) After the dexa scan, my gyn called, on a SUnday morning at 9 am!! scared the poo outta me, just to tell me my scan results and that she wanted to decide whether to re up FOsamax or go for Reclast...It seems she decided to forget me, and I wrote her off (wasn't that crazy about her or her office) ...did nothing but get better with my calcium, and start a weight bearing exercise class.
FInally went to a different general MD office. She feels with my skinny white girl build and my moms osteoporosis and my results, I should probably go back on Fosamax, or have the Reclast, for another couple years, and that they are stopping people at about five years of steady treatment and looking for alternatives. FOsamax and REclast are the same class of med, just delivered a different way..

Well, guess I better get serious with my calcium D! It's just hard to absorb the reality that I should be "worried" about this at my age, when Mom didn't have any of this kind of info till she was like 70. Then again, if she had the chance to start this at 52, she might not have cracked her kneecap....Sigh... Not 'worried' you understand...Trying to put my bone health up in the list of top 500 things to think about daily Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

Does anyone have further info to offer here?

I don't know anything about either the Fosamax and Reclast Sal can't help you there.
I can't take calcium supplements they make me nauseous, no matter how or when I take them Confused
I get lots with yogurt and am an avid milk drinker and like you do the weight bearing exercise and try to keep active. I wonder if there are other supplements you could try. I do take magnesium for bone health in place of the calcium tablets.
It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...
