Another gem in the Mid-Atlantic is Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, VA. If you live within 1.5-2 hours of the state capital, it is a very easy day trip at any time of the year. Once you're there, you don't have to leave: there are two cafes in the garden and a large and lovely gift shop. Plenty of free parking too. Here is a link to their web site: http://www.lewisginter.org/ Here are two views of the Conservatory. During my visit (May 2010), they were having an exhibit called "Glass in the Garden" with distinctive works by noted artist Hans Godo Fräbel placed all over the gardens and inside the Conservatory. These are two of the larger pieces in front of the Conservatory ![]() ![]() Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |

Lewis Ginter just became a must see rather than a wanna' go. ![]() Beautiful gardens, thanks for sharing Barb. ![]() Ric The Amen of nature is always a flower. Oliver Wendell Holmes Thanks to Grandma and the joy flowers brought to her and in turn to me. |

Glad you like the pictures, Ric. You and Holly would love it, I am sure! It's much more expansive than my photos show - just look at the map on their web site. I have some more photos of the grounds and different plants still to post. It's a great place to spend an enjoyable day, just strolling the grounds, having lunch at one of the cafes, and visiting the gift shop. They have reciprocal admission for members of the American Horticultural Society too. My best friend from college lives within ten minutes of this place - I sure envy her! The spring and fall Garden sales are also fabulous. And no, I'm not getting any kickbacks for my comments - can you tell I like the place? ![]() Yeah, guess I could post links to the specific gardens threads in the "Beautiful Gardens we've visited", but I guess I figured that since this was in the same forum, that folks would see it anyway? Beautiful pictures. I like the little stick figures. Reminds me of something my son likes to do. He takes posed photos and insert stick figures into the action. It amazes my husband and I what he comes up with. I like the way you are setting up separate threads for each garden rather than one long thread. It is easier to reference and others can add their own. |

Thanks, Loretta - that was my goal - to make it easier for folks to find information/photos/reports for a specific garden without having to wade through pages of chat and photos of many places, all jumbled together. ![]() Those stick figures were quite interesting, and it was fun to try to spot them as we walked around. Your description of your son's stick figure photos is very intriguing! Maybe you could post some of them over here, so we can see them too: http://cubits.org/MidAtlanticMusings/thread/view/42470/ Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |

I hear you Bob! I got some serious Spring Fever while getting those pics ready to upload! ![]() Of course, I hate to tell you, but down here near the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central VA (where I am this weekend) it is currently - CURRENTLY, as in after 11:30 PM in JANUARY!!! - 58 degrees out! This is just not natural... ![]() Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |

Sorry Barb, I see your point, I just don't venture about a lot. ![]() The Amen of nature is always a flower. Oliver Wendell Holmes Thanks to Grandma and the joy flowers brought to her and in turn to me. |

And I get what you're saying too, Ric. Actually, there's nothing wrong with getting the information out in multiple places! I will do that - I have missed things in the past if they're not in threads that I'm watching. ![]() Breathe in, Breathe out...Move on - Jimmy Buffett |
