Hi y'all... I just wanted to let you know what's been keeping our friend Deb/rcn48 out of action for so long...

As I'm sure most of you know, she sprained her ankle last year, and has had major complications ever since, which have really kept her off her feet, and away from her computer. As you might imagine, it has also really wreaked havoc with the nursery that she and her husband, Rick, run! Sad

After getting fed up with the way things were NOT improving, she pressed her doctor to order an MRI sooner than he wanted, and GOOD THING she did... it showed a large tear in her achilles tendon! Blinking No wonder she'd been in such pain for so long!

Anyway, surgery to repair the tear is scheduled for March 1. Recovery will take a while, up to 6 months, but at least it will be progress at long last.

Please keep a good thought for her! She'll try to check in whenever she can, and will hopefully be back to her normal and incredibly busy schedule before we know it.

Hang in there Deb!!!! We miss you - feel better soon! Group hug Lovey dubby Group hug

Ughh,, yes I'm afraid I'm not a very upbeat MAM member at the moment but wanted to thank Barb for starting the thread to let you all know what's going on and thank both Barb and Ronnie for keeping MAM alive. I especially appreciate the well wishes - I'm going to need them. Grumbling I'm taking a much needed break this afternoon from working on the financial mess this injury has created - something initially thought so simple has turned into a major disaster! Angry

Since I've been MIA so long, here's a quick synopsis of what a drastic effect this has had on my (our) life! I've been "nursing" my severely sprained ankle (???) since mid-July - no gardening and no nursery with all fall sales cancelled. I've been good, basically off my feet for six months but my ankle just wasn't getting better so I finally demanded an MRI and the results came back last week - a large tear in my Achilles tendon - no wonder I was in pain and #$%@ those doctors for leading me to believe it was just "going to take time to heal!". Crying So with surgery on March 1st we're going to have to back out of any spring shows, fall planting which was delayed because of my injury isn't going to happen either and I'm basically looking at another six months of "recovery" which essentially means I'll have lost a whole year. You all know me, I can't stand to sit still for long and I'm trying very hard to keep my sanity!!!! We've had to cancel an upcoming trip to Florida as well. Glare After surgery I'll be totally off my feet (crutches) for 4-6 weeks and another 4-6 weeks in a 'boot' which means I probably won't be able to tackle any gardening until early summer. My poor gardens Sad I left them in a state of chaos when I traveled to Maine for my grandson's birth in July with every intention to get back to the expansion I was working on when I was called away.

Trying real hard to keep myself busy with some knitting projects and have managed to get a few mosaic projects done as well - as long as I stay off my feet I can tolerate most anything although a house that hasn't been cleaned since July is starting to take its toll on me. I'm going to do my best in the next month to get a few things organized and cleaned so I won't be totally insane come summer! In the meantime everything is on hold for our future (nursery) and all I can hope for is a 100% recovery and be back on track in six months - I've got A LOT of catching up to do!!!!

On a more positive note, I was able to hobble through airports over Christmas and spend the holidays with my family in Maine - it took me a week to recover but it was worth it! Big Grin In the meantime until I can muster up enough positive energy to catch up on MAM, I'll leave you with my favorite photo from the holidays. We were at my favorite Mexican restaurant in Maine and I quickly devoured my meal so I could keep Chase entertained while his parents finished their meals. Kisses from my grandson. In the meantime, do NOT worry about us and this Cubit right now; we're doing OK, and we'd be happy if you just popped in whenever you felt like it to say hey and let us know what's up. We've got a nice core group here and lots of interesting conversations going on. Group hug

Take care of yourself, and let's get focused on recovery both for you AND Rick's Custom Nursery! I sure wish I lived closer so I could actually physically help out somehow. Group hug

Oh RCN, How upsetting those Grumbling doctors. Really I can't believe that they let this go on for so long before doing an MRI. Grumbling Hope now that the problem is diagnosed that things start improving and you will soon be on the road to recovery. I really miss talking to you and seeing your projects.
I will say that baby is just adorable.

Deb, How frustrating, Grumbling I really have no (decent) words to describe what you must be feeling by this point. I just don't want to be in your path when they take the traces off. Smiling I hope you have a speedy and complete recovery after the repair. Group hug Mean while I have a couple suggestions for picture frames for your doc, while you wait.

Rolling on the floor laughing Thanks Ric, I needed that except I think it's time to use "REAL" darts! Whistling

I really appreciate everyone taking the time to wish me well. Group hug

Nancy, I agree, sometimes things happen for a reason - Rick keeps telling me it's our guardian angel looking out for us. He has chronic back problems so maybe "someone" forcing me to slow down is giving his back some relief - although he's had to acquire a few new "skills" around here since I've been disabled and let's just say housecleaning is not one of them! Rolling my eyes. I almost feel guilty about my seemingly simple predicament considering the serious problems others have but it sure has thrown me for a loop! I have been keeping myself busy however, even if it's not what I want to be doing or would that be, should be doing? Smiling

Holly, don't worry I'll bring you all up to date soon with my projects. Big Grin

Now now, you know this is not a simple predicament. RosesrRed probably shared a similar frustration with her badly broken wrist.

Good ideas Ric!

Hi Deb,

Sorry this thing has been going on so long! Just to let you know that I had a badly sprained ankle which got worse over time and when I finally went to the ortho guy, he told me that I had shredded some ligaments on the outside of my ankle (which will always remain "puffed"). He did recommend that I wear a boot for a while to see if we could eliminate surgery. I wore the boot for 4 months and got very adept at using it everwhere, even in the garden. It was much slower going in the garden but I did manage to reach the ground when I sat on one of those roll-around weeding benches with the booted leg stretched out to the side. Did me a world of good and the ankle became fairly strong (I keep it in the closet because I feel I might need it again). Need to be careful of overworking the other leg and knee, though..

Feel better soon and try to focus on the fact that getting yourself fixed is ALWAYS more important than anything else!!

Again, thank you for all the support. Group hug Another trying week around here. Sad Started my month of "organization" (i.e. cleaning) with my workshop and although I was successful with that attempt my plans to start cleaning the house this week have come to an abrupt halt since I spent too much time on my feet over the weekend - the concrete floors in the basement aren't "ankle friendly". Grumbling I did manage to make myself a workshop pad to stand on that should help. Used some old scraps of carpeting and carpet pad (2 layers!) and used duct tape as a border! Hilarious!

Monday morning started with an emergency trip to the vet for Phoebe. Intestinal problems which still don't have a definitive diagnosis and she's still suffering. X-rays showed a small piece of bone which she hopefully will "pass" soon. Not sure what she might have ingested but she does like those small varmints that Lucky brings home! As sick as she is she didn't waste any time stealing another of Lucky's catches Monday evening. Thank goodness it's been necessary to watch for her "movements" outside and I watched the "robbery" unfold and Rick was able to get it away from her before she gulped it down! Thumbs up

So....I'm sitting in the vet office waiting for the results of the X-rays and noticed weird things with my vision. Blinking Didn't think much about it until I headed for bed that evening and experienced flashes of light that looked like a lightning storm in my eye!!! I remembered Barb reporting similar symptoms last year so I did a little research, emailed Barb for any suggestions/advice. Barb, being the sweet, wonderful lady she is, Angel Lovey dubby found my telephone number, called me and told me to get to the doctor pronto! I was lucky, got an appt. yesterday afternoon and the good news is it's nothing serious, it's just a common problem with "aging". Rolling my eyes. Thank you Barb, just another reminder that I'm getting old! Rolling on the floor laughing Seriously though, thank you! I tip my hat to you. At least I know it's nothing serious!

So on a more positive note, seeing that it's still early I'm going to find a few photos to post to show you some of the things I've been working on. Big Grin
