Addy loves to go anywhere. But she's taken to barking at almost any dog we pass. She also barks like mad when we have to leave her in the car and go in a store. She shuts up when we've gone in the building, but it sure is annoying and embarrassing the way she barks as we walk away. She's 4 yrs old for carp sake- WHY can't she decide its OK because we always come back?? Any hints for us? ![]() ![]() "If you bring joy and enthusiasm to everything you do, people will think you're crazy" W. Haelfeli, New Yorker cartoon |

I just keep telling mine "It's OK, NO, No, No!" But that's when I'm with her! She was a stray, and She's learning, you should hear her when I tell het now, she looks at me and does a cross between a howl-growl, and a bark! She know's better! |

Atticus would carry on like that when we would walk away, he quieted down when he couldn't see us. I had him with me one time at the garden center and he cried the whole time I was walking around ![]() Sound like a territorial thing when she is barking at other dogs. Does she quiet down when you tell it's OK? It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give... |

I guess, yeah , reluctantly she chills on barking at other dogs from the moving van. Partly she's just trying to say hello because she does that at a park too. She just has NOT mastered the gentle hello, only the big shepard arf!!! I'm so glad (for me only) to hear that she is not the only dog to ever bark when left in the car. I think some dogs are just more vocal than others. Diesel would bark at Harper to play. Our first Dane Callie mastered the gentle hello and boy did that soft arf sound funny coming out of a big dog! It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away.
