You're welcome, Sally! I tip my hat to you. He was sitting outside our bedroom window at the mountains, the morning after our surprise 7" snow storm - my best birthday present ever! (Seriously) Big Grin

It's nice to think that these natural visitors were sent specially for us. And who's to say they are not?

Thanks for the thread Barb, I kept meaning to get to it *Blush*

Been a rough two weeks, wound up with the stomach virus and boy does that one knock you on your arse or what...I was down 4 days on top of (excuse me men) all the menstrual carp Whistling Feeling much better now Thumbs up

Finally got some seeds sowed today, I'm so far behind and don't think I'll get caught up...cripes I still have some I bought last year and never got to them after my surgery...what the heck, someone needs to make these days longer, before I know it I'll be babysitting Domenic and there goes another day... Blinking Lots of direct sowing for me this year that's for sure Whistling

Actually, Sally, I meant the snow storm, but I can see how it reads that the cardinal was the present. I'd always hoped we'd be at the mountain place during a snowfall, and after two years, nothing. Sad Then this crazy storm came up sort of out of the blue on my birthday, (it was mid-60s the day before and the forecast kept changing by the minute) and we got to spend an extra day due to the weather. DH didn't get Presidents' Day off, but we couldn't get out safely on Sunday afternoon, so (gosh darn! Hilarious! ) we had to stay an extra day. The beautiful red cardinal posing against the white snow was the icing on the cake. Thumbs up

No problem, Ronnie - I know you've been swamped from every direction. So glad you're feeling better now - that stomach bug can knock the stuffing out of you even if nothing else is going on.

Well... the days ARE getting a bit longer now, so you should have time to babysit your precious grandson! Lovey dubby Priorities, girl, priorities! Big Grin

That stomach bug got us here, too, Ronnie so I can imagine how it felt when it was compounded with "other stuff". Hope you're feeling better.

Beautiful Cardinal, Barb. Sadly reminds me of how many we found head first in the snow last year after flying into the windows in the back of the house. Never did figure out why this was happening.

Teri, do you keep a light on at night? Apparently well-lit windows confuse birds... I had quite a few fly into my sunroom windows in past years, but I haven't had any this winter since I stopped leaving the light on out there. They also make window decals to make the glass more visible, but I haven't tried them.

I don't keep a light on in that area at night and I do have some decals hanging. All the accidents happen in exactly the same area and I'm beginning to think it's because one room is surrounded by windows, which might look as though they can fly right thru.

Oh gosh, Teri, that has to be very upsetting! I hope you can figure out the reason it's happening - you might be on the right track about the placement since it happens in the same spot every time. Sad

I've definitely heard of bird strikes where they can see through glass on both sides. We don't get a lot of strikes but have a few try to land on the plants they see in the living room. Hilarious! A couple of years ago we had a female cardinal more or less attacking the glass, even with the blinds down. The only thing we could figure was she was after her reflection. She was here for days. We've had a few strikes from birds chasing one another, a hummer that revived and a small hawk with bad brakes, he had a dazed and confused look after picking himself up. For the amount of glass we have in the living room I don't think we have that many. Smiling Ric

gotcha Barb!

So sad Terri. I know that unique soft thud sound. We get that on a certain window at a certain time of year and sun angle.

OK! Anybody who is going to Philly today... official rendezvous time is 2 pm, by the "Kauai Kaffe" at the PHS pavillion (pretty much dead center in the exhibit floor). I'll be the one with Sunshine Girl. :-)

I'll be there tomorrow (Wednesday), also, and we should have internet tonight, so get in touch if you're going so we can meet up!!
