Thank you Barb♥♥♥
It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...

I'm doing OK, this was a hard one for all of us. Sophie is much better but tells me everytime she sees me how much she misses him.
I made box for his ashes for each of them. I used one of those shadow box frames but reversed it, put his picture in the front and the ashes behind. Taped it up the bag with the ashes real good so Luci doesn't get "curious" and try to open it
Harper is having a hard time, she is till looking for him, sits at the gate which she never did before and looks out at the driveway, I think she's waiting for him to get out of the truck. We are still debating a puppy, one day I'm ready and the next I'm not. If we get one I'll wait until the girls are just bout out of school for the summer so they can be here and bond more with him.

A summer puppy sounds like a good idea, and nice weather makes housebreaking easier, at least I think so. It's a lot nicer than dragging a puppy and yourself out in the cold and wet.
Alfie is fascinated or more like obsessed with birds. They are not allowed to roost in his yard. He doesn't even like them to land in his apple tree. His fiercest bark is reserved for any raptors or vultures in his air space, his air space meaning he can see it. I don't think I heard him bark at all till he saw a hawk overhead shortly after we brought him home.
He seems to accept nearly all new dogs with interest. He didn't have a good 1st visit with Josh and Cortney's Cody, and since Cody is still rather fragile and still on the mend their interaction was very limited. I think the next step is to take Alfie to Cody's and change the game to Cody's home field. I'm pretty confidant that Alfie will respect Cody's domain. Ric

Thanks to Grandma and the joy flowers brought to her and in turn to me.

Thanks guys I appreciate the hugs but more so the understanding of him not being "just a dog"
The girls really liked the boxes and are going to put them in their rooms. I think it really helped Sophie get a little closure

They are so much more then just a dog. A big part of your life is missing, I hope Harper will be ok. I know when Molly was left alone she would go to the place where Mabel's bowl was every night at dinner time for almost a year and would not eat her own food unless you stayed with her and most times had to hand feed. It was sad watching her search all around the house. The boxes you made are really special and should help the girls with accepting what has happened.
OF COURSE, they're never "just a dog"... That's a wonderful idea for the girls and what a comfort for them in helping to remember Atticus forever, but also begin to move on.
Well said, Bob! It is indeed heartbreaking to see one of your dogs wait/watch for the one who is gone.
