Sorry to hear about Muffin, bit, It's so hard to watch. We just had the loss of Buddy to deal with last fall. I kept him as long as he seemed to enjoy his life and respond to our help. In the end he didn't even recognize me, even by scent, and seemed to fear everything. The vet said he may have had a stroke, he had been on meds for Grand mal seizures for a while and I guess they finally took their toll. I just hope he felt the love we felt as he passed. :-{ Ric

It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...
He's still going strong now, and seems to be responding to the new arthritis medicine well. It's hard to think that his time with us is limited, because he's still at 100% mentally - he acts like the same pup he's always been, but now can't run and play like he wants to. I can tell he gets frustrated when he's unable to do something. We'll make sure he stays spoiled and loved as long as he's comfortable.
Ric, I'm sure Buddy felt the love you had for him, even if he wasn't able to express it. Dogs know a good human when they meet one, and I'm sure he knew you're a good human even if he didn't know anything else

So cute! How big is he now? Looks almost Labrador-sized in the picture, and still so young
Thanks for the kind words for Muffin. He's doing fine these days... to him, nothing changed with the new diagnosis, it's only stressful to us humans. He doesn't much like getting his shots (can't blame him, I hate needles too), but he's good at holding still for me while I give them. And his arthritis has definitely improved. He's been getting lots of treats and snuggles, so he's a happy pup.

We get to go get Alfie today.
He spent the last 2 weeks at Rustic Pines where I'm told he enjoyed himself, I'll bet he was a lot cooler than I was. I remember why I don't enjoy the beach as much in high summer, the heat and humidity, not to mention the traffic. Maybe Holly's right, I'm becoming an old grouch. Ric
