Here are two nice Parks in Southeastern Pa that have lakes with various kinds of boat rentals and also offer lessons.
Peace Valley Park is in Bucks County and is really a nice day out. I've had lots of fun there with kids. Lessons and boat rentals are very inexpensive.

Marsh Creek State park in Chester County is another great place to rent different types of boats. They also offer lessons. Makes for a nice outing with or without kids!

Right here in Portland (near Delaware Water Gar) we have kayak, rowboat and tube rentals to go along the Delaware river for a while. After going down river for a while, you are picked up by van and brought back to the rental spot where your car was left.

That's a wonderful link for a mule pulled ride on the canal, Rose. I'm not sure if the ones in New Hope, Pa are still running.

Teri has posted one of many spots offered along the Delaware River for canoe, kayack and inner tube rentals. These activities are very popular along the river from New York all the way down to Philadelphia. I have rented canoes up in Dingman's Ferry a number of times. It really makes for a fun afternoon. The area along the river above the Delaware Water Gap is a National Park. Lot's of beautiful wildlife to be seen from your canoe.

It's very common to see 2 & 3 canoes lashed together with people fishing off of them as they are moving.

Thanks for the great link, Teri Thumbs up

Wow, Thanks, John for posting those great photos.!! Thumbs up We have many great boating spots in the Mid Atlantic what with the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays as well as the ocean, hundreds of rivers and lakes. But maybe it takes an outsider to remind us of just how many there really are right under our noses. So thank you!! Please come back and enjoy our real or virtual community at any time. Big Grin

No recent boating photos, but here's my DH and his friend in their sail boat in one of the "Sail for America" events on the Hudson River. They taught sailing in the "SEAS" organization and we had lots of fun in the small and large boats thru the years. We no longer have the boat or sail the hudson, but are looking for something recreational to use here on the Delaware River, just a stones throw away from where we moved to.

Deb/Dixiegal posted some great photos of her and her family dragging a raft around behind their power boat over in our hobbies forum. This was done as a day event on the Susquehanna River here in PA.

Just went out in Indian Head MD at Mattingly
There is a boat ramp, no fee. Thumbs up and small dock.
Kayak rentals, bait, sodas and packaged snacks for sale right at the ramp/ dock. A small park with pavilion and playground.
We went yesterday, a perfect mild Saturday, and got there at noon, there was still room to park in the lot and the water was not crowded at all. This ramp puts you in in a HUGE marsh off the Potomac. You can get to the potomac in a few minutes with power I'd think, or just stay in the marsh. The channel in the marsh is river-sized. We went upstream, spent two hours total, saw several GB herons, an osprey, a swimming otter ( we think) a million dragonflies, a few other kayakers and boaters/ fishermen. Totally quiet and peaceful. Water very clean. In one spot we went thru some marsh to a wooded shore, and tied and went on land. The woods are very open, must be deer there. Looked like a nice camping spot.
It's about a twenty minutes south of the Capital beltway, in Charles County MD.
