Becks, I know what you mean about the fish in Norway. When I was there it was served for breakfast, lunch and dinner. That's a lot of fish. I didn't eat Salmon for a long long time after that trip.

lol That's so funny. Most people come back from warm places in the late winter all psyched up for spring and warmer weather and are dismayed to find it's still winter. Here we are reacting just the opposite. I hate going to hot places in the winter. I don't mind it in summer because it's hot everywhere and I'm somewhat acclimated to it.

I'm always thrilled to go somewhere where it is cool.

We took family trip s to Florida Panhandle several years in June. Only drawback was that June is still usually very nice here, but we'd jumpstart our hot weather going there. When we went in July, it was just as hot and humid here as there in general.
Sis says the beaches around Pensacola/Fort Walton/ Destin are clean and tourism coming back

We liked Alligator Point in the panhandle. Very quiet area. It was like the woods here, but with a beach - lol.

That's great to know about the state of those Gulf beaches, Sally. Pam, I've also never really heard much about any of those beaches along the panhandle area. That sounds quite nice. I do remember a girlfriend from Atlanta saying that some of the Panhandle beaches were really popular destinations for the folks from GA, but I can't remember the names of the ones she mentioned.

Sally, I know exactly what you mean about June for a trip south. Once I went to a conference in Hilton Head in late May and it was absolutely scorching. It was about 98 degrees with 95% humidity. We had extended our trip for several days to do some sightseeing and it was unbelievably oppressive. It was nice to get home where June's nicer weather was waiting for us.

Great- I don't know Alligator Point but have been to Fort Walton Beach, Destin, Pensacola, Quietwater Beach (thats the sound side at Pensacola) and Gulf Shores Have visited Fort Pickens but the hurricane in ? 2006? broke through the barrier island and they have not has the money to rebuild a road. You can go by boat. Last year we rented a big pontoon boat and scooted on down there. It was great fun! We 'parked' on a very shallow area in the middle of the sound and waded around looking at hermit crabs, huge pink jellyfish and shore birds. Until a storm appeared in the distance and we had to run back to dock.

Just decided I'm heading to the UK this spring! Now I get to have fun trying to find cheap tickets - long story short, I have a half-sister whom I haven't seen since 1984, and completely lost contact with until this July, when we 'found' each other on Facebook! Soooooo, I'm heading over for a few weeks to get to know her all over again :-) I'm kind of exited now, I haven't been to the UK since then, and I'll go explore some of my old stomping grounds again :-)

MIL is doing okish, the meds are giving her some unpleasant side-effects - no changes in either direction since she started on the chemo in pill-form - we don't know if it is doing any good or not...this is uncharted territory for all involved, from oncologists to cordoma specialists...:)

Natalie and I are really exited about my upcoming trip, I'll have a brand new nephew (Joshua, 10 yrs old) and a brother-in-law now :-)

Just swinging by to catch up. I've never been to the Fl Panhandle my traveling buddy went to a beach there (can't remember which one). Said the beach was just beautiful, think they might have hit spring break or some other time when the place was filled with a younger crowd.
Hilarious! Fl. in June you should try it in Aug. Thumbs down

Hilly/Ric.
That is truly an award winning pic. Hurray! Fabolous

Destin>n> is a pretty big Panhandle beach town, on the upscale end too. But the other beaches I know on the Alabama end are not that much--compared to say Myrtle or Ocean City MD. I don't expect they get much of a spring break crowd at Pensacola, Fort Walton etc. THere is no boardwalk or much of a bar area to attract the drinking crowd at least.
