Many of us take time away from tending our gardens to visit other gardens. The views we see there nurture our souls and inspire us to create even more beautiful beds. Please share with us photos and stories of the gardens that have inspired you! Smiling

This is great! I'll have to search back through my photos to find some of the gardens I've visited. They might be repeats of what I've posted on DG over the years but it will be fun to revisit them through this thread!

Longwood Garden in PA - We spent an entire day there and listened to Rachmaninoff as we watched the firework display over the spectacular gardens. They say this is even more beautiful at Christmas, although bedlam as it is jammed.

Candee,

Longwood is indeed an awesome place to visit, evidently no matter what time of year. I'm headed there tomorrow with a fellow gardening friend, to while away some hours in the beautiful conservatory on a rainy/snowy/dreary day, and have a nice lunch at the restaurant. It's a great way to spend a day this time of year! Thumbs up

We've also been during the late spring (May), again, during the day, and enjoyed it tremendously. It must be really special to see the fountains, light shows and fireworks during the evenings. Some of our DG friends visited there shortly after Christmas and shared some great pictures of the beautiful displays. (Evidently going after Christmas helps to avoid the holiday crowds).

Wish I was going with you instead of going to work, yuk! Have a great day, I believe it is their Orchid extravaganza. I just loved the orchid wall, and the bromliad room and well those platters and wisteria trees, did I mention I loved it!

Yep, it's the orchid show season. We're not going specifically for that, but it doesn't matter. We went there about the same time last year, on our way home from the Philadelphia Flower Show, for the first time, and Longwood has now also become an annual day trip destination at least once a year, and hopefully more.

We'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite area of the conservatory - last year, each time we turned a corner, or entered a new "room", we were speechless.

Conservatories are just my favorite place to visit during the long, cold and DARK days of winter! Lovey dubby

Yep, that is what I meant, I loved it all! And we were there from opening until closure, it was 100 degrees that July and we still could not resist going back and back to the same areas we covered that place from end to end. Steve loved the planting end when he could literally thrust his hand in the soil around the carrots and other veggies!

We went to Chanticleer Gardens a few years ago. Definitely worth a visit. http://www.chanticleergarden.org/

I could easily have this in my yard!

It happens in a flash, but the memory of it last forever. It can not be borrowed or stolen, and it is of no earthly good until it is given away. So if in your hurry you meet someone who is too weary to smile, leave him one of yours, for no one needs a smile quite as much as he who has none to give...

What an artsy waterfall. I'll put this one on my list to visit. Think I'll post it over at my Travel cubit as a place of interest for garden vacations.

Ronnie, thanks for the photos of Chanticleer - we've loved their displays at the Philadelphia Flower Show, and it's been on our list of "places to visit", but your photos have moved it up a few places!! Thumbs up
