I don't know why it is, but the only meat or fish that I enjoy with something sweet added is pork or ham. No, that's not true, of course I love turkey & cranberries. Generally, I prefer my meals to be all savory. Years ago I used to eat duck l'orange and various cherry and apricot sauces, but I've gotten away from them and find that I don't really have a taste for them anymore. Apples still find a way into many of my pork dishes and stuffings, berries still make it into my salads and pineapple always adorns my ham. But in general, the "sweeter" dishes are not ones that I prepare anymore. Over time I've found that I am eating simpler and simpler food. Fewer spices per dish, much fewer sauces, and a lot less dairy products seem to be the order in my kitchen these days. I guess that I've been naturally migrating towards a mediterranean style of eating without really trying too. My last trip to Europe really influenced a lot of my present cooking. Fewer ingredients, bought fresh and prepared well seemed to be the order over there and it really appealed to me. |
