|My old house had a bank of fluorescent lights. I hated them. Now they have electronic ballasts with no flickering but these things flickered all the time. I ripped them out and replaced them with a regular fixture.
It depends on the bulb but some of the really high kelvin bulbs are too blue to me. I got some of the GE daylight cfls and they seem kind of greenish, although they are an improvement over the horse pee yellow of the regular or soft white cfls.
BTW, if you need a really, really nice lamp for a great price, I got this one at Walmart. It has a nice, even, white bulb (4100k) and is cheaper in the store - only $15.98. Available in black or white and they have a brushed steel one for a couple of dollars more. It's nicely weighted and adjustable. Only thing I don't like is it's only 16 inches tall but so far that's been just about right for reading. I've seen this same exact lamp on other sites for $50.
Here's another one I was looking at at Target yesterday. I didn't buy it but it's 24 inches tall, adjustable and is really pretty. You have to buy your own bulb, I think.

I saw this one too and thought it was very pretty.
