In my younger days we'd go to Turks and Caicos where they have that wonderful reef. It's a great place to scuba because of it. I remember that all the cruise lines wanted to pay the officials there to get rid of some of the reef so that the ships could come in. As far as I remember, they refused. The Island was still fairly untouched even though there was one all inclusive resort on it. Most of the remainder were luxurious condos a great golf course and some really gourmet restaurants. The avid scuba divers usually stayed in this one unique place that looked very overly casual!! They were really beach bums and divers. We got around by scooter. There was no shopping and barely a food market. The water was the most vivid turquoise that I've ever seen. The place was quiet and secluded. At dinner time we needed to dress according to the codes and walk thru little jungle like shortcut paths that lead from one place to another. I found it to be a really special place. There were several islands to travel between daily. We stayed at Providenciales (Provo) and took our trips from there.
