Sally, I thought it was very well organized overall. Their liquor license got pulled at the last minute, so there was no beer at the finish line like usual, but I think that was more likely the state's fault than the race organizers'. They sent an email to all participants the night before letting us know, and compensated us with free parking and free registration for next year's race, which is a much bigger value than a beer. That was really the only thing that seemed to go off-plan. It is a really huge event, but they do a good job of keeping lines short, for everything from registration to food. Even the porta-potty line wasn't too awful. It did take us a while to park (in a corn field), but they did a decent job of keeping traffic moving in an area that isn't built to accommodate so many visitors. They limit the run to 500 people per wave (start time), and I ran in the 1:30 wave. You wear a chip that records when you pass the starting and finish lines, so you aren't penalized in your time by starting at the back of the pack. I started at the very back, and still finished in a pretty good time. I heard from my friends closer to the front that sometimes they had to wait to go over an obstacle, but I only had to wait once, and not long. |
