I can't really say why, but we just didn't have a sense that the bear was a threat to us. We did also have the door to the house right behind us if necessary.  I also really didn't have TIME to be scared, since it happened pretty quickly, and I of course, was busy taking pictures! DH says their eyesight isn't all that great, and we were stock still, barely breathing, so hopefully blended in with the rest of the porch. I don't think this will be a regular event, and we did hear a lot of noise from the woods before it made its appearance, sort of a shuffling, leaf-moving sound, which we thought was a squirrel, or bird.
