My mother loves Christmas cactus and when they get too big she gives them to me! I have a pink one that is coming into flower, so I will try to get a picture of it for you. I do like her white one as it is unusual, and very pretty! Yes she does have Easter ones as well, but not a white one, just pink and red.
For everyone who has looked at Richards new thread about Kew in the Autumn thank you. He spends a lot of time doing that for us and if there are no replies I feel sorry for him. It would be a shame to lose a man who puts amazing plants on the forum, because not many people answer him.
Regards.
Neil.

Hi Neil,

If the Christmas cactus is blooming now, it must be a Thanksgiving cactus. That's what we call them here, but it is the same type as the Christmas and Easter. I can't tell you now, but one can tell by the shape of the leaf. One is pointed, the other has round nodes and who knows what the other has.

Thanks for the Happy Birthdays and my DD and I had a fantastic time in San Francisco.

Now I'm back with the group and be crazy again with you.

Nancy it is lovely to see you back! A Thanksgiving cactus, for that is a new one on me. We do not have Thanksgiving day in the UK, we have Harvest festival and that has long gone. So how is it supposed to know it is Thanksgiving day, when last year it flowered at Christmas? It is in fact due to light and not what special event is on.
When I get you a Palace you can have some, OK? Smiling

Thanksgiving is the harvest festival. It was President Lincoln who set the day in Nov. & FDR who first made it the last Thurs., later set to the 4th Thurs. Who knows when the original 'harvest festival' was held.

Neil, I always comment on Richards beautiful flowers too! He does an amazing job.

Here is an article that tells of the difference in the Thanksgiving/Christmas cacti.

Dear Lucy, September 23rd is the date of the Harvest festival as that is the day of the Autumn equinox! It has always been held on that date since pagan times..

Dear Linda, thank you for that and it is most interesting indeed. However that one flowered at Christmas and matches the description given on the Article on them.
Plus Nancy needs a bit of waking up now and again, although we all love her!
Thank you for taking the time to look at Richards pictures and to comment on them, he like anyone else likes to have a comment on his hard work.
Hopefully when the Hospital have finished pulling my jaw apart I will be back in action, and taking pictures again.
Love.
Neil.
