Do you do Digital Scrapbooking?

By Brenda Essig aka Zanymuse (Zanymuse) on December 31, 2012

Scrapbooking is fun and allows you to create family heirlooms from your photographs and mementos. It is great to sit down and go through a scrapbook on a rainy day or share it with friends and family as you go through it on a stroll down memory lane. . . and you can do it digitally too!

Digital scrapbooking has been around for a while now and has become very popular. Just like regular scrapbooking, it allows you to position your images onto a page, crop them, frame them and embellish them. Digital scrappers have an advantage over paper books though because they can be shared on line, and emailed to friends and family around the world. You can also print them and create a real keepsake book.

You can use almost any Photo/image software to create your very own digital scrapbook. The key is that you need to be able to layer images. Being able to crop and remove portions of an image makes it easy to get creative too. If you don't already have a favorite (or multiple favorites) editing program you can check out places like C-Net Downloads to see what is available, which are free, and which ones have been rated and reviewed by their team and by other users.

I have used many editors over the years and enjoy playing with them. Currently I am using Serif Craft Artist as my primary editor. I liked it enough that I actually purchased the full version. You can get the basics with their free version on the link above. I reccomend it for beginners and more experienced users who want to create quick and easy projects.

Here is a simple example.

Beginning Pyxles scrapbook...

I created 2 cover options

The cover was created using a texture background, a picture of pyxle, simple quick shape framing, transparent background "embellishments", and the page curl effect.I will use the uncurled image when I print the book for myself and the curled page for the digital version on my computer.

This is the beginning of Pyxle's scrapbook.
