Hi Gordon

I've followed some of your garden stuff on Dave's. I am fascinated that you have both a rooftop and a view. Does it get windy up there? Esp in the fall and winter. If I recall you also took some winter pics and they were memorable. When did you start this garden and are there other rooftop gardens around there. Do you have to bring plants indoors.

I don't even know if this cubit is still active, maybe I am the only member. Please let me know if it is discontinued.

HI Sea..
yes...I guess we're still in the running here... well that's a bunch of questions..glad you have the interest.. yes.. we've a great view... .. 360* of exposure... so see alot across the city... the harbor and back across Brooklyn on the other side.. so exposed we've got great winds... nothing blocking them in any directon.. today we've a storm starting.. prditced 18-24" of snow... falling at a rate of 4" / hr... with 40+ MPH winds.. I've a cool room I build on the roof... out of 2' thick foam.. this will be a good snow load...wind test for it..I keep it @45 * F as my target dormancy temperature.. rght now it's 46* inside ... the 2" foam thickness is about twice the insulaton of your standard refrigerator.. so it's real easy to heat..
alot of the thngs have there.. and alot more iinside here in the house... I have 7 150 watt color corrected spots [ Chromalux bulbs from finland ] as general house lightng.. in recessed celng fxtures... and 3 ...400 watt metal halide lights... on 6' and 8' moving tracks.. to light a larger area.. and provide shadowless plant growth... no need to turn or move the pots .. untll one starts to try and over grow one near by.. then it gets turned or clipped.. there's banks of other T-5 flourescent grow lights and other spots in other places...
MMMM I Guess it's been up and running some 12-14 years... maybe more.. in this location..Thumb of 2010-12-26/GordonHawk/50b362 it's 50+ MPH wnds predicted... yummy..
