Yay!!!! Now I need to put a link backwards in case anyone wants to re-read something from the old thread. Also, feel free to join us in Sharon's Friends chat. We are in the Winter thread right now. It's pretty active and if you don't have time, just browse, but lots of good conversations there.

Blows my mind how beautiful the quilts are! And of course, we are already treated to seeing Jumper's sewing projects that are over the top too.

Hurray!

And maybe next week I will get brave and take a couple pictures of my quilt I am working on. But they're going to be distant photos, not close up because I don't want anybody seeing how bad they are! Rolling on the floor laughing

Thanks Arlene, although I'll sure miss seeing Barb as we did when the other page opened.

I explained why I've been missing for a few day on the other forum so I won't beat it to death, but will keep you up to date on my progress or lack of after we get back home.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone is working on too. Maybe we'll be able to gain some more friends here.

I'm working on a knitted prayer shawl for my neighbour. Her hubby passed away unexpectedly yesterday, at home. I hope to have it done in a few days, when it starts getting quieter around there for her as people stop coming by (and they do, I know.........).

I am here. I am working on several quilts at once, get tired of one and start something else. Haven't really felt like doing it much lately, but I still have the desire.

Just about to start a Jelly Roll Race quilt. It looks like fun. Iwill post a pic if I ever finish it.

Okay. Here are several photos. First is the row layout from Quilters' Cache. This is for a Carpenter's Wheel block. I enlarged it for easier viewing.

Here is my first block with the some of the fabric I'm using in the quilt:

And here are more strip sets laid out and marked for the next block:

I've already sewn those together but they're not yet cut apart.

Several comments:
The completed block you see above was made with the seams all being pressed open. What a chore!!! And I'm not happy with the way my points have lined up (or not) at all, so the other 3 will be made the way I usually do with the seams pressed toward one side or the other. I'll try to alternate the way I press them row by row. It took me a lot longer pressing the seams open to get the pressing done.

Despite the sort of Christmasy look to the block, I think the grey fabric I'm using for sashing will help tone that down. Still trying to decide what to use for backing fabric.

So the 2nd block won't be made for a while. I'll keep you posted.

I gotta tell you, I am shocked and so impressed. I thought the design was the WHOLE quilt. I had no idea each block had that many pieces. It's looking beautiful!!!

I'll have to admit too, I don't understand the strip sets.

Wow, Angie - I'm with Arlene - I thought the picture of the block was the whole quilt!! That's a lot of perfectionism in just one block times (how many to make a quilt the size you want)...........?!?!

I'm only putting 4 of these blocks in the center of the quilt. Since it's a king-size
(108 X 108), no way I'd make the whole thing out of those blocks! There will be wide sashes around it and the entwined border will be near the outer edge. Hard to explain, but I'll keep you posted. This makes a 24" block, so I'll have a 48" square
in the center. Haven't decided if I'll butt them up together or separate with a narrow sashing. Design is still coming together.

Arlene, the strip sets make for speedier piecing of those half square triangle units.
I'll sew along the diagonal lines, then cut the squares apart and cut the squares in half, thus giving me 2 units per square. Maybe that just confused you even more Confused Sorry! When I get that step finished, all I have to do is start putting another block together in rows.

Karen, thank you. You've made this block before so you know how tricky it can be.
I think I made every mistake possible on the test block! Good thing I took it for a spin before cutting into my new fabric.
