Terri, late or not, I'm glad to have you here.

We bought this 80 acre place in May, 1993.. The place was originally a homestead and the patent was signed by president Woodrow Wilson in 1915. There was an old house on the place with newspapers on the walls from 1898, so I think a lot of people tried to make a living here before somebody finally met the requirements for a land patent. Most of it is in pasture which we lease to neighbors who have pastured sheep and cattle on it. There isn't enough irrigation water on the place to raise much of a crop of anything else. My garden is the most productive area, and it is watered mostly from our well. In the past I have worked for a neighbor helping with his sheep and cattle. I called myself the midnight midwife because I was checking for lambs in the wee hours of the morning, bringing them to the barn and making sure they were ok and that their mothers loved them. Besides the thread here in Sharon's Friends, a link below this message will take you to several years of lamb stories and other writings about farm life and several years of endurance riding.

The garden produces food for us and some to sell to the co-op. Today I sold 2 kinds of onions and some garlic. I'm not getting rich off this venture but it is fun and rewarding. It also keeps me out of mischief. I finally finished planting the last variety of garlic this afternoon. Over 550 of that variety. Now I have to spread straw over the rows and water it to make it mat together so the wind doesn't blow it away. I caught gopher #2 and set the trap again in the same tunnel as yesterday's gopher. No dirt in the trap, he just went for the garlic clove I put just out of reach! The garlic bait seems to be working beautifully! Why didn't I think of that before?
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.
