After waiting for a decent amount of rain to soften the leaves and get the compost wet, I resorted to watering with hose and sprinkler. Then we rototilled twice and now I am finally planting garlic and hurrying to try to get it all in the ground before the weather gets wet and unpleasant in a few days. I think I will have at least 1,000 again.

While waiting for it to rain I worked on cleaning a long flower bed and planting tulips, daffodils and crocus to have a pretty show next spring. I fed them more compost and finally got the truck empty. I have a big pile of tree trimmings from the power company. The trees are the ones that overhang the power lines at the neighboring farm where Ryan has been living. They were chipped and dumped into a pile there were they sat for several months. Then when Ryan was getting ready to move he gave me the pile. I moved it with the tractor bucket. Based on the number of loads I hauled and the size of the bucket, I think there is 8 or 9 cu yards of it! Wow! Free mulch!
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.
