As I send out my meager box of socks today, my heart breaks that I can't do more.

One woman wrote this:
"It is so easy to feel disconnected to the tragedy so far away. Thank you for erasing the boundaries of culture and distance" and those words share my heart. The Japanese are resilient, appreciative and calm. They have taught me so much. Crying

Jason Kelly lives in Japan and he has spearheaded Socks for Japan. Her is his latest journey blog. The photos are heart wrenching and his story writing is a gift and simple to read. The news has moved on from Japans disaster and it shouldn't. Jason keeps reminding us so we can pray and give.

He also is funny is his reply to someone asking if this was a fraudulent operation. He said " you think I can go through that many socks?"

On the home page of this link he shares how you can send socks. Following his guidelines make it easier on the volunteers.

What destruction those poor souls have right in their backyards. It's so sad.

I'm going to post a link to this thread, over in the Carpe Diem thread, Becky. People should see this.

Please share on any cubit....
My heart is so heavy and I can't shake off the feeling that people are forgotten so quickly.

This is my box of socks I sent. I wish I could send so many more. They have asked us to send letters and I had trouble with Japanese so I figured the hearts would send my message.

That's beautiful Becky! Earlier I sent your link off to some friends here too. It is easy to tire of bad news afar and forget that it is still today's news for those affected. I LOVE your solution for the language barrier....I'm sure that those receiving felt your heart up close!

Once anyone has experienced any kind of devastation, their hearts seem to have more compassion, don't you think? I imagine the people of New York are sending socks like crazy! They've received over 27,000 pairs in Japan.

You are welcome. We have customers in Europe and I use it occasionally in emailing. It is not perfect but does help communication .

When I tried that last week, Arlene, I just get the little boxes like it's showing in Nancy's post. I want to see real Japanese lettering and I'm told I need a program for my computer to do that.

I'm not sure I understand. Can you see the Japanese characters in my post above? How about the image of Japanese characters?

I've got to run to the store but I'll be back.

Becky, I don't see little boxes. I see Japanese characters, but in my own post they are fairly skimpy/faint. In Arlene's post they are clear and sharp. No little boxes

I pasted them into my post from Google.

Then I pasted them into a Word document and increased the font size. Pressed "Print Screen" button on my keyboard.

Opened paint and pasted it into paint and saved it as a JPG image. Then I opened picture manipulating software and cropped so it was just the lettering.

I came in here and uploaded the image so we could compare the image to the actual posted symbols.

I guess I was very surprised that Dave has it set up so we can post Japanese symbols.

I can see Arlene's post in Japanese letters but the rest is just the little boxes with numbers in them.
What does it say, Arlene?

The image I posted or the the actual posted part.

I did it both ways in that post. Might it be settings on your computer?

Nancy's post doesn't show up as little boxes for me. It shows up as characters. I'll do a screen shot.
