Well I'm brand new to streps, and also to this group -- which is also brand new. Cool!! New stuff is fun!
I've been murdering African Violets slowly for many years now -- wondering if I could do a better job with these plants (as in keep them happy, not murdering them faster). They certainly do come in some wonderful colors and combinations.
I'll be lurking here -- trying to learn more and deciding when to take the plunge and try my hand at streps!!
Every day is a second chance. Every day is precious time.
Hi, Dave, just noticed this in the "newest threads" list on my homepage. I haven't been in a Yahoo group for years--sorry they drove everyone away, but we're glad to have you here! Can you invite other members of your former group?
I have a couple of african violets, but no streps. I would like to try them, and will research more about them. Thanks!
Hi Renee, thank you for your warm welcome. I have been busy setting up the group but did announce this group is now active for everyone in our yahoo group. I am sure many will drop by and become members here.
Though we primarily are about Streps, we do allow discussion of all Gesneriads. There is a separate forum called Gesneriad for this purpose. However, the main focus of this group continues to be Streptocarpus.
We are still a work in progress. Though it will show StrepbyStrep as the owner, (me) this group has two others as well, Nancy Braun and Thad Scaggs. Both are much more knowledgeable than I am and are hybridizers as well.
Did you see them on the website? Those featured are her newest hybrids for 2014. She is a member of our yahoo group and my hope is she will transfer to this one but the notice went out late last night so it maybe a bit.
Look on Facebook for her page Betty's hybrids. Do a search in the search box and will come up. There are many more she has made! She is one talented lady!!!
Oh mine like the cooler weather! For me, they really struggle in the heat of summer. I have over 80 varieties now, and about 50+ seedlings coming on of my own first hybridizing. I also have seedlings from some other projects, not of my own crosses. I could really use another plant shelf but do not have the room for a third. So I am having to make room on the shelves I have.
How have your plants been doing? Glad to hear you have had success propagating them! Be careful! As you can see, streps can really become addicting!
Instead of running after perfection, why not simply walk in faith?
WOW, Dave!!! This move of ours is attracting new members Welcome to our group everyone I see some familiar names on here from another site which is great. Audrey, streps should do well for you in an east/southeast window (I live in MO also). Bright indirect light. Someone asked about Betty's streps. I am thinking Thad will be selling some for her on e-bay. Someone correct me on that if I'm wrong but I think that's what she said.
Again, this is great and lots of chat to read. I think this move was a good one.
Welcome to Strep by Strep!
