Nancy will be holding a demonstration and seminar about steps soon for her AV group. If you were attending, what would you like to see or hear discussed? Group hug

This message isn't just for beginners. Some of the members of the club have been growing streps for many years and others have never had them. I plan on touching base on the latest Gleamings article by Dale Martens. I also plan on bringing a seed pod as well as a Jiffy peat pot with seedlings growing on it. They love hands-on so I may bring a couple of leaf tips for them to plant. i will also bring my book of photos. Most of the members have no idea what the newest streps look like.

If you were a member of the group, what would you like to see, have me talk about, or do hands-on.

This forum can be added to at any time for future use by other members who might be giving a presentation on streps.

I don't think you can go wrong discussing cultivation... growing medium, water, fertilizer. You could not only talk about what you yourself use, but the trends in strep care, to include the tried and true and the epic fails.
Instead of running after perfection, why not simply walk in faith?

I didn't give the usual talk on streps today to our AV Club.

#1 - very few knew that streps with yellow coloring existed. I brought lots of flowers and they all oohed and aahed.

#2 - I showed them a seedpod and then opened it to 100's of tiny specks. I also brought along one of my Jiffy pellets that had babies growing on it.

#3 - I knew they wouldn't watch the utube video soIi brought in a plant of Cicero that should have been divided a long time ago. You could hear the shuddering when I cut into the plant, separated the multiples, threw out those that weren't up to par, and pulled off all the outer leaves. I think they learned something and everyone went home with either a baby plant or leaf.

Yep - they got the address but I doubt if any of them will even bother to look. Their average age is probably between 75 and 80, and they have not seen a yellow strep before. Most are computer illiterate and plan on stay ing that way!

just a looker here , someday I will try some of your beautiful flowers
My question is from your comment 75-80 yrs old
Is this typical , are most strep keepers older? is this an old plant ? the kind my grandmother would have kept?
I know this is off topic and feel free to delete Smiling with no hard feelings *Blush*

Cinda, there are people of all ages growing streps. Nancy's AV group that she gave a seminar were in that age range. No, there are quite a few young people growing streps today. I believe streps will be the AV's of the future.

Thanks for your reply
I have been watching all the beautiful photos posted sense you started this cubit
Do not see any streps here in the stores or greenhouses ( except the giant hanging baskets of the small purple flowered one) where do you purchase yours?
I saw a post about e-bay but I have never done any purchases over the internet.
