In an effort to keep the back patio cleaned up a bit, I purchased two plant stands that each have four shelves. They stand about 5 feet tall. The plants were doing great on them and it kept them off the hot cement during the afternoon. Nest building time came and an irritating robin was bound and determined that she absolutely had to build her nest in one of my 4” plastic pots of semps. First she tore out the plants, then she started hauling in all sorts of garbage to build her nest, dropping it all over the other semps in the process. Since I was working during the day I wasn’t able to scare her off. Twice a day I had to remove all her nesting materials. I threw it in the garbage so she couldn’t just pick it up and start building again. I tried turning the empty pots up-side-down (since she’d torn out the plants). She just moved on to a different pot. I’d covered the individual shelves with shade cloth. That worked reasonable well, but I really didn’t want my plants covered with shade cloth. So I broke down and got some bird netting. I was lucky to find it in black so it wasn’t very noticeable and that finally seemed to do the trick. She still got inside the netting one time but after I left her out she eventually looked elsewhere to nest. My semps finally enjoyed the rest of the summer without being destroyed. (She’d better not return this year – our grill is only about a foot away!)

No, luckily! I bought some extra netting this year and never had to use it. Hurray!

Now your patio should be clean and gleaming with some beautiful plants. I have consulted Cupertino concrete services to build me a patio, can I have plant stands constructed as well along with multi door windows for enough sunlight?

Hi @BrentWoods, actually it's pretty cold here in WI already and we've had snow. My semps are going into dormancy for the year. Are you planning on enclosing your entire patio? What zone are you located in? Those answers will help me better respond to your question.
