Well,
It turns out...when I'm busy doing something else, Gino's been cuddling the bunnies. I caught him today, cooing to it and petting it. I told him not to do this, it associates them
with humans! He just laughed!
Later on, I noticed them at the front of their little wire cage, out of the 'nest' and following my every move.
Gino's 'taming them.' It worried me, so I finally told him tonight we're going to have to build a hutch. He loves it. now i have two rabbits.
He's already trying to think of names for them

Lynxx, I think that's great! With no bunny mama to teach them out in the wild I doubt that they would fare well on their own. Now they'll have spoiled, happy lives! Hurray! Hurray!

Awww Chris, at my age I'm trying to eliminate responsibility, not take on more! Rolling on the floor laughing
But you're right, that's what has been worrying me. And they are easy to care for, as adults. I shouldn't complain, bunny poop is good fertilizer! At least i'll get the @#*%! end of the stick! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing
Toni, I think Gino's already picked Mr. Wiggles and Thumper.
Lol, I love Cadbury though...I've got to ask him about that Thumbs up

Goldfinch - Bunny mamas kick their kids out at 3 weeks of age. Not much of a baby bunnyhood.

I know how to sex them.. put them on their backs and gently push on their lower abdomen about 1/2" above their urinary opening. If something pops out, it's a boy. If nothing pops out, it's a girl. BE AWARE THAT YOU PROBABLY WILL GET PEED ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(this works for domestic buns, so I'm sure it'll work on wild buns too)

I was only thinking an hour ago, what if I end up with a girl and a boy? You guys are way ahead of me. Sticking tongue out
Thank goodness one of Gino's good friends is a veternarian...he'll fix one for nothing if that happens.
Thanks for the heads up on how to sex. I think one of them is a boy...haven't really paid attention yet to the other, next feeding i'm really going to take a better lookl Hilarious!
Toni, they pee in Gino's hand every time we feed them, so he's used to that! Hilarious!

Tonight we went to Home Depot. I bought parsley seed, and carrot seed for the bunnies. When we went to Sweetbay supermarket, I also bought rabbit food pellets, Since we are keeping them, I guess they should be eating them, as she advised.
I dropped a very small amount in upon our return.
They woke up and started eating them.

Yep Chris. still on warmed stove top. I think in a few days they'll need the room of Boo's cat carrier, and in another couple of weeks Gino is going to start building their outdoor hutch. Hurray!

I know I have not updated,,,but the smallest bunny died about two weeks ago.
I buried it, no toss in garbage, as so many would have done.
Meanwhile, 'Cadbury' lives on and is strong and awaiting his new outdoor enclosure.
TY Toni, for the name. :)

What a bummer. I'm sure that was a heartbreaker and glad to hear you buried it. I wouldn't have thrown it in the garbage either. Crying

I kind of knew the day before it died, that it would. It refused to eat, and was smaller than the other surviving bunny. I felt so bad, I even shed a few tears.
Cadbury is still in Boo's cat enclosure. Gino had to go to N. Carolina for the holidays, as business and pleasure, (sister and her family) so he's not here to build the hutch.
I've learned so much about bunnies. i did not know that they cannot fart, Grumbling so you can't feed them any greens that would create gas, like broccoli and cabbage. He drinks from the water bottle, loves carrots, romaine, parsley and dry timothy grass. he also eats those little rabbit pellets.
The first couple of times I cleaned the cage, I threw out the bedding and rabbit poops that were in it. Then it dawned on me that stuff would be great for the compost pit, so I get a plus when Cadbury gets clean cage. :)

Truth should be everpresent.
I am very impressed that you havce been able to raise either of them this long. Wild bunnies are notoriously hard to keep alive. So sorry about the little one.
