Everybody knows now that I am a frog. A frog is jumpng from a place to another.
This land is my land, this land is your land (first words I remember from an American folk song) and here are some pics of the town where I live, located South West of France, small town, around
five thousands inhabitants, old town dated from the Romans, with a cathedral belonging now to the Unesco patrimony. To give you an idea and hope you will enjoy.

I would be pleased to see what surrounding your gardens, either you are living in town or in the countryside either in the hills, the mountains, the lakes or whatever.
C.
The first picture on the left of the last row represent small gardens for people willing to cultivate flowers or vegetables and not having a piece of land to do so. These belong to the town and are rented for almost nothing by the townhall.

Here we have 'patrimony days' on the 18th of September, some museums and privates places are opened for free to the pulic. This day I went to an old midicine cabinet having beautiful old bottles and surgery instruments and I wanted to share a bit with you and took these bottles with gold labels which were containing laudanum which was a preparation made with the papaver somniferum.

What a beautiful place you live in Catherine. So much history surrounding you. I love the little individual gardens so lovingly tended.
Are you living where you grew up?

Nice to see you Lynn. I begin to feel really lonely... I grew till ten at the countryside (picture with the rabbits) and then from 10 to 18 during what we call the 'secondary studies' before the university. After that I was going back and forth but it is the cradle of the family and you see the cathedral , there is a stair called 'the stairs of death' and I was taking my school friends up here on the roofs of the cathedral as I knew every single corner and I did prefer the dangerous ones of course.

Many springs and sources in the town, including hot ones and many old wash houses. Some has been unflortunately destroyed but some are still there

What wonderful history you have Catherine. I love all the photos, but I am not very fond of the gargoyles. They always make me feel uneasy.

Lynn this gargoyle was funny with this kind of hair but I will remember they make you uneasy. Gargoules was a very nice technical way for the water to go away and I have always loved them..

How do they make the water go away? Do they function like rain gutters? That is interesting. I did not know that was what they are used for. : )

Some information about gargoyle from googling

Quoting:

When talk about gargoyle, you must have seen the water spouts with faces decorating some of the architectural buildings. These are nothing but the ancient grotesque designs created by certain sculptors. These are also known as gargoyle sculptures. These ancient monumental characters are now turned into gargoyle tattoos that are huge hits among the youths.

The gargoyles are said to outcast the evil spells on one’s life and bring good omen. The elaborate grotesque characters used to keep evil at bay and protect the occupants of the particular building. .

In ancient Egypt gargoyles were used for spouting out the water used for washing ceremonial vessels on the temple roofs. In Greek temples, the marble water spouts often took the shape of lion heads. The gargoyles that we have come to know and love adorned the medieval cathedrals of Europe. Nobody can say for sure what these fantastic carvings depicted, since no definitive historical records exist to enlighten us. They probably served, however, to incite the imagination into fits of storytelling, since this was a pre-literate age.

Not all gargoyles spout water. Some of these stone carvings are purely ornamental, and are more properly referred to as ‘chimera’. Chimera are mythical creatures dating back to a number of cultures, including Ancient Greece, Egypt, Persia and China and are creatures combining the features of two or more different animals.

Griffon designsOne of the most famous of the chimera is the Griffon, Griffin, or Gryphon (spelling depending upon culture of origin), the legendary figure with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. Sometimes the griffin is depicted with an eagle’s talons, or a lion’s claws, and occasionally the griffon has elongated ears. Such creatures were often featured in heraldic crests, as the lion and the eagle were both considered to symbolize nobility.

Sometimes, these gargoyle combine two or more animals. In Mythology, they are called “chimera”. The most famous in this genre is of griffin or griffon as it is called. It combines the features of a lion and an eagle. . Also, a human skull is sometimes one of the gargoyle tattoos. It also is said to protect oneself from premature death.. They also believe in their traditional values.
