By Janet Colvin (UniQueTreasures) on April 14, 2010
Greetings! I'd like you to meet AddieSue. She's an incredibly talented Mosaic and Stained Glass Artist I found on Facebook. AddieSue has graciously agreed to share her story with us here and debut one of her latest pieces. You can ask questions and comment on her work below the article. Please give a warm welcome to AddieSue. |
Hello! I'm Addiesue, owner of Stained Glass Addie, and I currently live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I’m a wife of 24 years and a proud mama of a beautiful 22 year old daughter. I've been working with stained glass now for approx. 6 years and absolutely LOVE it! ![]() I've been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to try many new things (all thanks to GOD and my wonderful husband) and in doing so I found my true passion....STAINED GLASS! I love the colors, patterns, and textures of it and when the light hits it it's as if it comes alive…it energizes my soul!
I originally started out practicing the traditional leaded method but have found the mosaic method to be much more forgiving and rewarding for me…it allows me lots of self-expression. I’ve always thought the frame is just as important as the art inside of it. All of my bigger windows are either vintage windows (40+ years old) or custom made to fit the piece. After all, a window without a frame is really just a panel. It’s like a cake without icing!
All of my windows are one-of-a-kind and rarely turn out looking like the original vision in my head no matter how hard I try. My mood of the day tends to drive my artistic direction and flow. I can usually spot a little bit of my personality in every finished piece and that gives me a lot of joy. I hope that my work will inspire others and give them a sense of excitement and the same inner peace it gives me.
When Janet Colvin, with Cubits.org, asked to feature my work I asked if I could include my latest window soon to be completed. She was kind enough to let me debut it for the first time to all of the Cubits.org fans in this article.
I have been intrigued by this picture since I was a child and I just had to see if I could create a similar version in glass. It is called The Guardian and is approx. 36”x24”. I made the frame out of wood and painted it black with an antiqued gold wash. A special thanks goes to my husband for all of his help in assembling and routing it. We make a great team! Here are some pictures of my past work as well as a link to my Flickr Slide Show which includes pretty much all of my past stained glass work. (The photos above can all be clicked on to enlarge.)
