Here's something a little different. I just got this in my email and sat here mesmerized as I watched this video. It was taken in San Fransisco just a few days before the big earthquake in 1906. Amazing how many folks were going back and forth on the roads in front of the streetcar. I hope you'll enjoy watching this piece of history. http://www.flixxy.com/san-francisco-1905-historical-footage.... You have to realize that the video you are about to see will have no Ford Model "T" in it, because it didn't go into production until 1909. You will see Peerless, Cadillac, and I think an Olds or two, but no Fords - Yet. This film, originally thought to be from 1905 until David Kiehn with the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum figured out exactly when it was shot. From New York trade papers announcing the film showing to the wet streets from recent heavy rainfall & shadows indicating time of year & actual weather and conditions on historical record, even when the cars were registered (he even knows who owned them and when the plates were issued!).. It was filmed only four days before the quake and shipped by train to NY for processing. Amazing but true! Music: "La Femme D'Argent " from the "Moon Safari" album by Air. Truly an amazing piece of cinematography for it's time, and even more amazing that we are getting to see it in 2010. |

Great video!! I hope you have that linked on the ancestry cubit too! LOL! I love history! Being that I live in the San Fran Bay Area, the number of people walking in front of the cable cars DOES amaze me! But, in an opposite sense! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I don't have a clue. I honestly haven't had the time to venture out in cubitland much. I need to do that though, just to see what all is out there. It's growing by leaps and bounds! |
