Today is Alice in Sweden's Birthday and I hope you'll share your birthday wishes for her here! We cut the main stem into 2 pieces so it would be easier to ship to Sweden, added flowers to her hat and made her jewelry. Then we torched the sculpture with color. She's complete now and absolutely gorgeous! I hope you will enjoy watching her creation. She's been so much fun to work on. Thank you Alice and Jan for allowing us to create a special birthday gift for a very special lady.

I've watched it her grow into a beautiful, feminine momma, and tonight I sat and watched the entire thing all over again. Excellent work, Ladies!

Happy Birthday, Alice!! Many many more! You have a lovely present and a generous, thoughtful husband. Thanks for sending pictures of you and the finished product!

Thank you Marylyn and Nancy for your kind words. I smile everytime I see her.

Nancy, I watched the entire show last night and loved seeing her "come to life". This is the first time that a sculpture took so long (first photo was taken March 18th) to be created (other than my own dragon, which took a total of 2 years time) and I have to tell you that she was definitely a lot of fun to create.

I also loved watching as Alice and her husband got to see her for the first time. When I opened that first post, my own husband was walking by and I called him over to enjoy the moment with me. He loved seeing the expressions on Alice's face. He said, "Sure looks like she loves it!" I just smiled and agreed. That was exciting to watch. Big Grin

The Coleus Mama was our first plant. Alice has an incredible collection of coleus. She's even made trips to the US just to increase her own collection. The Coleus Mama was also our first international sculpture. Our art has now traveled 5164.8 miles to get to her destination. (I found this out with this site.)

What did we learn with this Coleus Mama? We both learned how to use a new tool, the nibbler. That made cutting out those leaves and shaping them go much quicker than cutting them with just tin snips or scissors. And we learned how to make square copper. We tried something new for toes. We learned how to use a brick breaker to create veins in leaves. And we learned that it's much wiser to create these sculptures in the cooler months. By the time she was finished, it was in the 90's here in Southeast Texas. Now ordinarily, that wouldn't be a big deal because Connie's shop has an air conditioner but due to their being a 20 ft. trim board across it, we didn't have access to it right now, so inside the shop, especially with the torch on it was well over 100 degrees.

Having Hillary and Cammie take some of the photos and videos really did take a lot of pressure off of me. I was able to enjoy the "creating" so much more not having to worry about running the camera as well. They've both seen finished sculptures that Connie and I have created over the past few years. I know they both have a deeper appreciation of what all actually goes into those sculptures now.

We appreciate everyone that has taken the time to view the creation. We love having you folks looking over our shoulders. Knowing you are there helps us to remember to explain things. Group hug

And I also enjoyed reading your commentary of things you learned doing Coleus Momma. I'm glad you decided to write that, Janet.

I can't wait to see what's going to be next!
