Is it any wonder that Richard fell in love with you?? Look at you. You are beautiful, and refined, and sweetly demure. Your story here is extremely interesting, an your thread in Sharon's writers Cubit is rivetting. I have very much enjoyed reading both. Thanks for bringing Maria to the Who's Who Spotlight, Sharon. |

Nap, my buddy, my friend, my co Spotlight interviewer...you are very welcome. One of these days when you least expect it, I'll be knocking on your door, Nap, and I'll say: "Boooo, Nap, this Spotlight's on YOU!!" Thanks for reading Maria's Story. Isn't she one strong and beautiful lady! |

Oh yes, Maria is strong and beautiful and totally charming~ But about the other thing? Ummm, I don't think so. ![]() |

Thank you Nancy, many times while writing my story I wondered how I braved some problems with such audacity, but when one is young and without fear one does. As one gets older and older fear overtakes actions that still may be necessary. Maria "Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it" G. Santayana |

Thank you, Maria, for sharing your many memories, painful and otherwise. It illustrates too, how many suffered in the war, even if they were not targeted. My parents lived in Rotterdam and the last winter of the war they had nothing to eat either due to the blockade. Some of these stories are totally unknown. My DM once rode 100 miles on a bicycle without tires to get a sack of potatoes.... Hard for the young generation to comprehend. Again, thanks for sharing. |

Lots of countries suffered terribly in that war Hetti, all because of one man along with his cohorts. Maria "Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it" G. Santayana |

With tears streaming down my face, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed reading your story, Maria. Thank you, Sharon, for writing it. I will read part two later tonight. I had chills all over my arms when I was reading of your past. And love filled my heart for the great love you and Richard shared. ![]() Maria, I totally agree: I can loose the TV but not the computer!!! Becky |

Thank you Becky, I always have to remind myself if it had not been for the war I would never have met Richard. Trisha, thank you and you are so right but too soon most of us forget things that should not have happend in the first place. It IS beautiful Maria, but a bit on the cool side this year....we are still waiting for summer to arrive....the temperature, officially, has not been above seventy five degrees since early September. As her daughter, I have heard parts of Maria's "wonderful and remarkable" story throughout my life, but having it written out from beginning to end has made it even more meaningful to me. "Coming of age" in wartime is traumatizing, but, as you can see, my mother exhibited the courage, determination, and pluck needed to survive. Luckily she and my dad found each other and were able survive the war and to share a wonderful romance and loving relationship during their life together! I want to add that I am deeply touched by the love and support given to my mother from all of you in this group; I know it means so much to her... Congratulations on the well-deserved honor of being in the "Who's who spotlight," Mom! Love, love love, Thia |

Thank you my sweet and beautiful daughter lots of hugs with love Mom Though you'd like to see her taking care of her baby brother many years ago, she was a great sister to her siblings Maria "Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it" G. Santayana |

Hello, Thia. Yes, we have fallen in love with your mother. It's an honor to have you visit us here as well! It is obvious that your mom has passed on her good looks to you. You have a lovely smile, as does she. And how sweet of Maria to allow us to see you in your youth! Thank you, Maria. |

Hello again, Thia.... Thanks for sharing your delightful Mother with us! My computer took a small vacation yesterday and was unable to find its way back to Cubits until now. It's very nice to find you here. Thanks for the picture, Maria. Your family is beautiful, just like you. |

Thank you Sharon, glad you found your spot here again, I would miss you no end. Daughters picked strawberries today and left me quite few, probably they are gong to be my meals for the day Maria "Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it" G. Santayana |

Strawberries??? Oh, my favorites. They would be my meals for the day too, Maria. It drove me pretty crazy too, when I couldn't get on the internet. I sure am glad it healed itself, because I don't know a thing about sick computers! |

Thanks Shar for the wonderful interview and Maria thank you for making a thread and sharing your story with us. We must never forget the horror that occurs when there is no freedom or equality. Maria your courage and tenacity amazes me. No wonder Richard fell in love with you ![]() |
