I want to say thank you too, Larry. We have a white Christmas here too, but it's not as special as Sharon's. In Buffalo, we dance in the snow just about everyday...lol!

All three of us with a white Christmas. How special is that?! Nancy, I suspect that with the lake effect, a white Christmas is pretty much a foregone conclusion in Buffalo. I keep thinking about the Ebenezer folks having to deal with all that snow.

Just to put our collective snows into perspective, here are some recent photos from Siberia.

Actually, we did have one to rival that.

In January of 1977. We've had a few since then that were pretty devastating, but the Blizzard of '77 is "The Big One" where I saw just about exactly what you posted. Houses and traffic signs covered completely. The Army Corps of Engineers had to bring the big machinery into Western NY and they carved out Transit Road near my house with about a 20 foot wall of snow on either side. It was amazing.

Good Lord willing, we won't see another one like that again!

I certainly hope not, Nancy! I didn't realize that the Buffalo area got socked quite that badly. How did you cope? How long did it take for the snow to melt to a more reasonable level?

We had a pretty serious December, so there was a good amount of snow already. My husband was out of town and due to fly in the day it began. I phoned him and suggested he postpone his trip back. He said, "It's only snow. We've had snow before,"

That was on Friday. He tried, but had to spend time in Pittsburgh before he could get any closer. The next day he managed to get a flight into Rochester. My sister lived there, and he thought they could drive him home. But no, that wasn't happening because the Thruway was closed and everything else too. Finally on Wednesday (or maybe Thursday) the Thruway was reopened and they drove him home. That's when they got to drive through the carved out road I told you about. They were shocked.

We had enough food in the house, and "Roots" was on TV every night that week, so my parents (who were living with us at the time) and my little sons and I were fine. Thankfull I was not working yet. I understand the entire hospital staff had to spend several days and nights. The year after that I started working, and there were two occassions over the years when I had to spend the night at work.

That big snow of 1977 remained all winter. Please click on this link to see some images.
