People fascinate me, that's why I love doing Spotlight articles. My friend, Susie, is no exception. We grew up at about the same time but worlds apart. If Susie and I had traded places, I wonder how we would have functioned in each others environment. Yet here we are today with many of the same values, similar characteristics, matching dreams and the same goals. Life is funny like that, I think. Now let's meet Susie...

Thank you Sharon! Your tale of my tale is wonderful! I've enjoyed my life a lot. I'm lucky!

However, along with never seeing the Stones I was never in the Peanut Gallery!

Thanks again! I hope everyone enjoys our story!

I enjoyed writing your tale, Susie! It was indeed a lot of fun.

Breaks my heart that you never met Howdy, though.

Thanks for being such a great subject. I really enjoyed all our conversations.

Hi Susie, How fun to hear of the many things you have been involved with, places you've been, and people you know!

Thank you for sharing a little bit of your exciting life with those of us here in the mid-west...a boy that lived near by when I was growing up was baby sat by Cheryl Ladd....I never knew about it until she came and visited when we were in high school...that was our excitement!

Too funny, Maridell! I just happen to be pretty lucky to have been brought up in California. Lots of exciting things going on there .... it's fun if you can go with the flow.

Now, I like AZ just fine. Like my life. Big Grin

Hi, Susie! This was so much fun to read! I'm very glad you decided to let Sharon do this interview!

I definitely think you have packed more life into your years than anyone else I know. More adventures, more friends, more excitement.

Stay happy and healthy and live long. I can see you're not anywhere near finished yet!

Hi Susie! Great stories. So happy you are planning to foster poodles - you love them so much and they need you.

I was born in Burbank, the last of four - we had a rural house in Roscoe. My dad had a gas station in the 30s-40s and also had contact with a lot of the 'stars.' One of his fav's was Jimmy Stewart, who would invite him in for lemonade when he delivered his car after service. He also had a half-brother who was a stand-in for Mickey Rooney in the very early days, and a cousin who was a minister in a church attended by Hollywood folk. That was all before me, of course. You and I are the same age - imagine, we could have run into each other back then! We also have the detective gene in common. Smiling

Hi Kathleen,
Wow! We may have run into each other! (at Bob's Big Boy on Ventura Blvd?).
When I lived across the street from one of the Lassies on Valerio in Van Nuys, Mickey Jr (w/ mom Betty Jane) lived next door. We loved playing together. His father would visit often. I lived on Woodley at Ventura Blvd for about 10 years.

Oh sigh...
There you two go, name dropping again.
I don't think there was a single star anywhere near the mountains of southeast KY back in those days. These days either.

Does it count that Coal Miner's Daughter was filmed partly on property adjacent to my brother's home? Of course...I was nowhere near the mountains by that time.
Oh sigh....

Hi Kathleen...good to see you.

LOL. I didn't have personal contact, Sharon, just 'familial.' According to my cousins, their dad hated the movie business and got out as soon as he could tell his dad "no!" We moved from the (San Fernando) Valley when I was young. The Beach Boys were sort of local to where we moved, so we saw them a lot early on. My sis was at school with Jan and Dean, and when I was in high school a lot of the rock 'n roll stars were at the dances we would go to. Sis and I met Bobby Darin at a drugstore soda fountain. Susie was more likely to have run into my cousin, the minister's daughter - their family had connections. Rolling my eyes.

The nice thing is when you have well known people living near you and you DON'T know about it - they are more likely to be more like regular folks. You might be surprised who lives (at least part time) in Kentucky!

Good point about some well known folks living in Kentucky or elsewhere.

I had some run ins with the Beach Boys, too. Met Jan and Dean at a movie screening at the Encino Theatre once.

Moving to Northern California was sooooo different. I know I appreciated it a whole lot more.

The earthquake you mentioned, Susie. 11 miles southwest of Sedona....If you look on a map, that's almost my front yard. Funny thing is that I never felt a thing. It was supposed to have hit at 5 am. I'm usually in the shower right about that time so I may have missed it because of that.... Hilarious!
