By Sharon Brown on June 20, 2011

Sally, or Sunfarm as we know her here on Cubits, is one of my Kentucky friends. She lives nearer to my mountain hometown than I do and sometimes I have to look at her pictures just to get a glimpse of my beloved hills. Uplifting, you bet! And it's even more uplifting to know Sally.

What a beautiful tribute to a remarkable lady. You are someone to truly admire. I have danced in the rain, but from now on when I do, I will have a special smile because of you.

Thank you for letting us know, Sharon. I am so glad Sally is without pain finally. Her stories will live on forever, so thank you for telling them. I never met the lady, or even had a conversation with her, but I got to know her through here, and as my granddaughter would say, she 'riched' my life.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to have a relationship with such a wonderful, strong person. Sally will be remembered by many and I know that I will smile and think of her every time I dance in the rain.

Me too, Candee.

She was so funny sometimes. The last time I got one of her email messages: 'Sharon! Call!!'

So I called, and the first words she said were: 'This better be you.'

I started laughing because how do you answer something like that? And she said:

"Oh Yes, it's Sharon, I can tell by the laugh."

I asked how she could tell by a laugh, and she said: "You have a southern laugh."

Actually, her other friend who called a lot too has an area code with reversed numbers, otherwise same as mine. So when we called she knew it was one or the other of us by looking at the number, she just never knew which one. But she could tell the difference in our laughs, the other friend was from Maine.

Sally was not from KY originally, so I guess she knew a southern accent when she heard one.

We laughed a lot. I'm holding on to the laughs.

Her family has given me permission to share her obituary. Sally was very private and wanted a private service. She wrote this obituary, omitting only the dates. I just wanted to share it with you. Thank you for all your caring words.

Sara Deming Ramsdell
Cressy, Kentucky

Sally lost her 2-year struggle with breast cancer on Monday, August 22, 2011. She was born at Salt Lake City, Utah, June 11, 1941, to the late Milo Henry and Margaret Corder Deming. She is survived by Richard Alden Ramsdell, her husband of nearly 40 years, daughters Linda K Grimes, DVM, of Estill County, Patricia L. Welch (Jeff) of Fairport, NY, son Lee W. Grimes of Union, KY, and grandson Spencer R. Grimes of Lexington.

She lived in Lexington for approximately 40 years until her retirement and move to rural Estill County in 2004. She was the founder and president of Concrete Quality Consulting, Inc., and was active in concrete production and construction industry organizations including the American Concrete Institute, of which she was elected a “Fellow” in 1988. She was a charter member of the Bluegrass Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction. In 1994 she was named one of the “Top Women in Business in the Bluegrass” by The Lane Report.

In her retirement, she continued to serve as an arbitrator and mediator for the Better Business Bureau, became a Cooperative Weather Observer for the National Weather Service and Community Collaborative Rain Hail and Snow Network, and pursued interests in herbs, nature study and photography. Sally was a member of the Earthhealing team and asked that contributions be made in her memory at http://www.earthhealing.info or CoCoRaHS.org.

A remembrance of her life will be held at Lewis Funeral Home, 224 Main Street Irvine, KY, on Saturday, September 17th,2011 at 3pm. The family will greet friends and colleagues one hour prior thereto.

I still think about Sally every day and am so sad she lost her battle. We cheered her every step of the way with her treatments, but I guess it wasn't to be. I too am glad I was able to ''meet'' her thru the forums.

We were lucky to be able to tell her how we felt without having the word ''death'' be a problem.

She was very special.
