By Sharon Brown on June 20, 2011

Sally, or Sunfarm as we know her here on Cubits, is one of my Kentucky friends. She lives nearer to my mountain hometown than I do and sometimes I have to look at her pictures just to get a glimpse of my beloved hills. Uplifting, you bet! And it's even more uplifting to know Sally.

Dear Sally, loved the story and thanks to my friend Sharon for giving us a chance to meet you! I too have surprised Sharon with her stories on the Kentucky Hills and the plants, for I live in England!
In the UK it is now common for a woman to do jobs that were considered to be a mans job. In fact it is the law here anyway, with a few exceptions of course!
I met a lovely girl at University and she got a Degree in Garden Design. However she could not get any work and so with her knowledge and a bit more training became a Quantity Surveyor on a building site!
She now has her own Business, and is very busy all the time!
Our Regimental Motto was "Surrender Is Not An Option." Sounds like it was yours as well.
I leave you with some Cypripedium kentuckiense or the Kentucky Lady's Slipper Orchid, pictures are from England.
Regards.
Neil.

Dear Sharon, I hope Sally does have them growing on her farm as they are getting rare now! So are amazing people like Sally as well, they never cease to amaze me with that tenacity and love of life!
I am going to put Phoenix on here for Sally, for she is a fighter as well.
Phoenix sends her love!
Regards from England.

Thanks Neil and Sharon. Yes, we do have the KY ladys slippers here at Sundance Farm
.Phoenix looks like a wonderful part of your life as Aslan(see my Avatar) and my other fur-babies are and have been in my life. Wish I could share them with all of you. My ashes will join those of Paco, TJ and Mitts on the spot from which my favorite farm/yard photo was taken. I am so grateful to have this closure before I go.

Sally, we, too, have a family cemetery on our property.

All our pets are buried there as well as my parent's ashes.

It's a quiet little place in the woods surrounded by dogwoods.

There is a little "concrete" Thumbs up bench to sit on too and there were butterflies in the mold when it was poured. Hank and I will have our ashes buried there as well.

Dear Sally,

Thank you for sharing your grace and courage, and your amazing life with all of us. What a beautiful space you have created! I will dance in the rain in your honor, and in celebration of your life.

Sharon, thank you for writing this - as usual, a beautiful and well-crafted article.

Love,

Bonnie

Dear Sally, I wonder if you have ever seen one of these? The Californian Lady's Slipper Orchid, to me a great treat and a surprise, like it would be to meet you!
Also my wife's two cats who are not fighters, just lap cats! The black and white one is called Oliver (after Dickens book), as he always wants 'more' feeding! The white one is called Phoebe and is getting an old lady now.
The most elite Regiment in the British Army has a motto "He Who Dares Wins." In your case that should be changed to "She Who Did Dare Won!"
Kindest Regards from a rain soaked England!

Cypripedium californificum or the Californian Lady's Slipper Orchid. This is so tiny I got trampled on taking a picture of this.

"Life is not about waiting for storms to pass; it's about learning to dance in the rain!"

I love that quote.

Sally, you remind me so much of my sister Carol who met the same fate with the very same courage and sense of humor that you seem to possess. She is gone now, but her spirit, like yours, will live on forever. Her ashes and her spirit live here in this beautiful garden that our Sharon built for her when she passed in '08 as will you live on in your own garden of which you speak. May we all meet up on the other side and dance in the rain together.

With love.....
Ava

My cousin Lois lives in Fairbanks, but I must confess that although I was born and raised here in Alaska, I've never been to that particular part of the state myself. It's in the interior and I love the sea and my beautiful coastal mountains. Here is a recent sunset view from across the bay from Seward....

Dear Sally,

I confess, last night's rain still made me sad, thinking of how I'll miss you. Your insights and humor have been such an asset to the "Circles" cubit as well -- thank you for posting about your experiences there; I know it will be tremendously helpful.

Next time it rains, though, I promise I'll dance, and think of you!

This lotus opened up today. It's such a beautiful, strong, big-spirited flower... reminds me of you! The lotus bloom symbolizes purity of spirit. I googled just now to see what else I could find about its symbolic significance, and I found this quote to share from a tourism site ( http://www.thaiwaysmagazine.com/thai_article/2022_lotus/lotu... )

Rooting in mud, the plant is able to rise up... and yield a flower of... perfect beauty and purity.

Thank you for your friendship, always.

I love you.

I'm in New York City for a couple of days. The weatherman says scattered thunderstorms tomorrow - some possibly severe. I intend to laugh and dance and praise God...and do it in honor of you, Sally!
