We asked this question: "Tell us all about the first car you ever owned." I didn't realize the answers would bring with them memories, but I should have known. It brought memories for me, too.

I was thinking about our "infrastructure" in the mid-60's when many of us bought our first car.
As I remember.
My mom paid $42,000 for her house... 51 yrs later sold for $1,290,000
Gas was about $.27 a gallon.... 2011 $3.40 in AZ
Berkshire Hathaway (Warren Buffett) class A stock $19 - last Friday $107,800 a share
VW Bug 1965 new - $1900 - today used about $27,000 in great condition (eBay)

... I'm still a struggling middle class retiree..... but! in 1965 I was on top of the world!

Isn't that the truth, Susie!

I think I paid a little less than $4000 for that first Mustang.

Just goes to show you the value of memories, Sharon... they are with you forever, for good or for bad. Hopefully good, one way or the other. Trouble is it can take $$$ to "fund" the memories.

You have to place value in memories, most of them have shaped us, and most of us treasure them for just that reason.

So true!
Sometimes I approach a certain friend interaction with the sole purpose of creating a memory for with that friend. Something lasting and something they can even pass on to someone else. I mean, that is the sole purpose of my interaction. I think the root of the desire to do this comes from my grandmother, Floie whom you have "met"! She was a master of memory making! She paid for my first car!

Floie was major in your life. Aren't we lucky to have had some very strong women behind us? Strong enough to teach us to be strong and soft enough to teach us to see others? Compassion. I think they gave us compassion and strength, and maybe the determination to use them wisely.
