Fun stories and memories!! I enjoyed reading, it did bring back memories of many nice vacations, I have seen some beautiful sights, how lucky!

I would love to see Niagra Fall -- is it the negative ions that are known to make you feel good? something like that. and then a weekend in New York City would be fun to see that city alive and maybe a view way up high at all those big city lights... yep, would love that, maybe some day.

I would also love to see Zany's neck of the big gi-normous redwoods. I bet they are awesome to behold!

I don't know anything about negative ions, Christine. I just know "awesome" when I see it!

i'vebeen on the us side twice and the candian side once. i much prefer the canadian side. i think it is much cleaner andthere is more to do but it is very expensive compared to the new york side. they hae what is called a harmony tax wich is about a 17 pct tax besides the regular sales tax. a breakfast sometimes cost 30.00 dollars a head

My first trip there was with my parents I was in my early teens so we are talking at least 45 years ago and the Canadian side was much nicer at that time. Again in my mid 20's and it was still much nicer. I haven't been back since but from what I hear that is still true.

I agree about the Canadian side, but part of the reason is the physical layout of the Falls.

The Canadian side (the Horseshoe Falls) has only one small piece of the ledge, and you can get very close to it. Then there's the lo-o-o-ong walkway to the tourist area (Clifton Hill) which is directly across from the American side. So you can see the entire view in a panorama.

The American side is much different. You can get very close to the Falls in several different areas, but the view directly across from them is of the Canadian walkway.

So as far as the "view" goes, the Canadian side is better because you can see the entire American side. Big Grin

But the city of Niagara Falls NY can't compare to its Canadian counterpart. Canada has turned its grounds into a wonderland...some might say "tourist trap." The American side ought to really do more to attract the $$$$.

Here's a really good view of the whole area.

Beautiful photo's Nancy - now I need to go back and read what they said Big Grin

I think we went to falls in the mid 80's or so having been there the first time as a child in the late 50's, early 60's. The area surrounding the falls did look tired.
