Why is it that we expect only good things to happen to us, and take them for granted when they do, rather than be grateful? Good quote, Sally!
Once, years ago, I was walking down the hallway at work and a woman was walking toward me. As she got close, I could hear she was mumbling to herself. Then for no apparent reason, she nearly stumbled, but regained her bearing quickly.
As she passed me, I heard her whispering, "Thank you, Lord, for keeping me from stumbling..." and she kept walking and whispering.
I realized that her mumbles were prayers, and that she was being a dutiful Christian. Praying without ceasing and thankful for every favor. God taught me a lesson that day. I have never forgotten that woman's faith and loyalty to her Lord, and I find myself doing the same thing very often. Thanking him for everything.
Wonderful words! I do thank God for graces I receive, even small ones, like all the traffic lights being green when I'm running late. I started that after surviving intact (mostly!) after brain surgery. Staring your mortality in the face does things to you!
